Next, using a wheelbarrow, distribute approximately 2 tons of sand over the compacted aggregate base. Spread the sand to a uniform thickness of 1 inch. To ensure a perfectly level surface, lay down 1-inch plastic tubes as screed rails. Use a straight wooden board to drag across the tubes, leveling the sand. As you level sections, remove the tubes and fill their impressions with sand, then continue leveling the next section.
