On front-loading washing machines, a hidden filter usually located behind a small trap door at the bottom front of the machine collects lint, debris, and other gunk. This filter should be cleaned once a month. First, open the trap door. You'll find a rubber tube; pull this tube out and remove its plug to drain any residual water into a plastic container. Observe the dirty water and gunk that drains out. Once all water has drained, replace the plug and put the tube back. Next, unscrew the main filter itself by turning it counter-clockwise. Pull out the filter, which will likely be covered in dirt, grime, hair, and fibers. Remove all this gunk manually. Spray the filter with your prepared maintenance cleaning solution, then use an old toothbrush to thoroughly brush and clean all parts of the filter. Rinse the filter completely under running water until clean. Allow it to dry. Once clean and dry, reattach the filter by screwing it back into place clockwise until secure. Finally, clean the inside of the trap door area with a microfiber towel and close the door.
