Washing Machine Cleaning

Pour 2 cups of white vinegar directly into the washing machine drum. Run the machine on its hottest water setting and longest cycle available. The vinegar will help to break down any detergent buildup and kill mold and mildew.

Carefully remove the dispenser drawer from the washing machine. If it's removable, soak it in hot, soapy water for about 30 minutes. Use an old toothbrush or a small brush to scrub away any residue, mold, or mildew. Rinse thoroughly and dry before replacing.

Open the washing machine door and carefully pull back the rubber seal. Use a damp cloth with a mild cleaning solution (like diluted white vinegar or a bleach solution) to wipe down the entire seal, paying attention to any crevices where mold or lint might be hiding. For stubborn mold, a paste of baking soda and water can be applied and left for a few minutes before wiping.

Using a damp cloth and a mild all-purpose cleaner, wipe down the exterior surfaces of the washing machine, including the control panel, lid, and sides. Pay attention to any sticky spots or smudges. Dry with a clean, soft cloth.

Locate the filter, usually found at the bottom front of the machine behind a small panel. Place a shallow pan or towel underneath to catch any residual water. Carefully unscrew and remove the filter, clean out any lint, coins, or debris, rinse it under running water, and screw it back into place. Replace the access panel.

After cleaning all the components, run another hot water cycle, this time empty, to flush out any remaining cleaning residue or loosened grime. You can add a cup of bleach or a specialized washing machine cleaner to this cycle for an extra deep clean.
