Washing Machine Cleaning
About This Project
A DIY guide to thoroughly clean your washing machine, addressing common issues like mold, mildew, and odor buildup to ensure optimal performance and hygiene.
Steps
Wipe Down the Door Seal
15 minsOpen the washing machine door and carefully pull back the rubber seal. Use a damp cloth with a mild cleaning solution (like diluted white vinegar or a bleach solution) to wipe down the entire seal, paying attention to any crevices where mold or lint might be hiding. For stubborn mold, a paste of baking soda and water can be applied and left for a few minutes before wiping.
Clean the Filter/Drain Pump
20 minsLocate the filter, usually found at the bottom front of the machine behind a small panel. Place a shallow pan or towel underneath to catch any residual water. Carefully unscrew and remove the filter, clean out any lint, coins, or debris, rinse it under running water, and screw it back into place. Replace the access panel.
