Now, it's time to wind the new springs. Start by winding each spring one full turn by hand (which equals four quarter turns), ensuring the winding bar is fully inserted into the cone. Then, using two winding bars, continue adding tension to the spring. For a 7-foot door, you typically need to add 29 to 30 quarter turns; for an 8-foot door, it's 33 to 34 quarter turns. Always wind the spring in the UPWARD direction, regardless of whether it's a left or right-wound spring (the direction of the wind matters more than the side). Insert one winding bar completely, turn one quarter turn, then insert the second bar, remove the first, and repeat until the desired number of turns is achieved. After winding, securely tighten the set screws on the winding cone using the 7/16-inch 12-point socket and ratchet.
