After releasing some tension, insert a winding bar into a hole in the winding cone and begin adding tension by making three quarter-turns. Rotate the bar in the appropriate direction to wind the spring tighter. Be careful not to over-tighten, as making the door too 'light' can create new balance problems. Once the desired turns are added, use the second winding bar to hold the tension firmly in place while you tighten the set screws on the winding cone with an adjustable wrench or socket. Ensure the set screws are extremely tight to prevent the spring from unwinding.
