Step 2 · Support the Existing Pipe

This is the step people usually slow down on. Go finger-tight first, then a quarter turn. No rush — replay the clip whenever it helps.

Before making any cuts, you must securely support the cast iron pipe on both sides of the section you plan to remove. Use pipe supports, pipe hangers, or sturdy wood blocks wedged firmly under the pipe. This prevents the heavy pipe from sagging or falling when the section is cut out, which could cause further damage to the plumbing system or serious injury.
