Step 4 · Cut the Cast Iron Pipe

This is the step most people slow down on. Take it one move at a time — there’s no rush, and you can rewind the clip as many times as you need.

This is the most challenging step. Equip your reciprocating saw with a blade specifically designed for cutting metal, such as a diamond grit or carbide-tipped blade. Apply a small amount of cutting oil to the blade and the marked line to reduce friction and heat. Begin cutting slowly, letting the weight of the saw do the work. Do not force the blade. Make a clean, straight cut all the way through the pipe at both marked locations. Be prepared for significant vibration and noise.
