What happens here

This video, the first in a series, provides a detailed guide on the initial steps of installing a segmental retaining wall. It covers preparing and compacting the gravel base, precisely laying and leveling the first course of interlocking blocks, and back-filling with drainage gravel to ensure stability and proper alignment for the wall's foundation.

we're going to do something a little different this week on my youtube channel we're going to take a retaining wall that we're building and we're going to break it down detailed into a series so that's not too overwhelming all at once but still try to keep it entertaining or and engaging what do you think should we try it you're gonna break it down into a series yeah just done a series before i've done series before but we're just going to go day by day by day by day into kind of bite-sized chunks no not not like this normally i go 10 15 sometimes 20 25 minutes at a shot okay how did it do i've never done it okay but the one you did do but even though you did a longer version of it how did it do well they usually do they do good yeah all right that's what we're gonna do [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] plan for today is we got most of our base in yesterday we're just gonna get that dialed in the last little bit it needs to be then we're gonna find the dead middle of our wall we're gonna base that first block and then blaine's gonna go one way and i'm gonna go the other way i'm gonna get this whole base in today and get this wall pounded out that seemed like it held up all right i i checked the forecast like four times yesterday and there was no rain and then what kind of water then it was like why is everything so wet so the string is gonna be our back of black i'll make sure this one is buried that looks like it's going to be buried you know two and a half feet plus the camp is up here [Music] yeah that's a pretty that looks pretty good yeah i mean they were up yeah they they were pretty high up they had a ditch almost level there's a pretty good pretty good ditch going on behind here i like that elevation right there it's got a little tilt this way so when we bring it up and then have this grade come up it'll be about perfect sounds good [Music] you'll never see blaine or sam getting up to go get their own blocks they each have their own dedicated helper whose sole job is to keep them fed with the materials as close as it needs to be so all blane or sam has to do is concentrate on leveling those blocks [Music] each block gets leveled front to back then side to side then they get leveled with the blocks adjacent to them then the back of the block gets leveled to the back of the block adjacent to that to ensure that we have a straight line and then a string line also gets ran on it to make sure that it's achieving the look we wanted to and all that gets done without me even being there oh yeah so then some of you are probably wondering what the heck is your job stand well my job is to find amazing people that don't want to be babysat line up the projects for them to work on and then just keep them happy and then i get to go do what i want to do and that makes me happy [Music] so the two new kids are actually alex's brothers they don't have any experience in landscaping but if they work anything like him we're all good our base is in where the first bit of the base is in another all packed let's get one of the center ones put in and that's where we're cutting it today tomorrow we're adding the next layer and continuing the project but you tell me you like this format where we break it down into bite-sized chunks but still try to keep it engaging and a little bit fun at the same time if you like it let me know say it down below god bless go get it we'll see ya
