For the final sanding pass, use a buffer or orbital sander fitted with fine-grit sandpaper, such as 120-grit or 150-grit. This step is critical for achieving a glassy-smooth surface. Continue to sand the entire floor, ensuring all areas are covered and that you are working with the grain. This fine sanding removes any faint scratches left by the medium grit and polishes the wood, making it receptive to stain and finish. Check the surface visually and by feel for any remaining imperfections.
