Step 10 · Light Sanding Between Coats
Once the first coat of finish is completely dry to the touch, it's time for a light sanding between coats. Use very fine-grit sandpaper (220-grit or higher) or a sanding screen attached to a buffer or orbital sander. The goal here is not to remove the finish, but to lightly scuff the surface, knocking down any dust particles, brush strokes, or minor imperfections that may have settled into the finish. This creates a smoother surface for the next coat to adhere to, ensuring a more durable and professional-looking result. After sanding, thoroughly clean all dust using a vacuum and tack cloths.
