Once the rough sanding is complete, switch to a buffer or orbital sander. Attach 80-grit sandpaper and work systematically over the entire floor, again moving with the grain. This step is crucial for smoothing out any potential scratches or unevenness left by the drum sander. Ensure complete coverage, overlapping passes to create a uniform surface. This intermediate grit begins to prepare the wood for the final sanding stages.
