Before starting the sanding process, it's crucial to protect surrounding areas from dust and potential finish drips. Use high-quality painter's tape to mask off baseboards, door frames, window trim, and any built-in cabinetry. Apply plastic sheeting over doorways and large openings to create a barrier against dust. Cover HVAC vents with plastic sheeting and tape to prevent dust from circulating through the home's ventilation system. Ensure all tape is pressed down firmly to create a good seal.
