I WILL DO THIS EVERY TIME IF I CAN FOR A TUB SPOUT REPLACEMENT!

What happens here

After removing the tub spout, you may find a slip-on adapter attached to the copper pipe. Use a 6-in-1 screwdriver to loosen the set screw located on the underside of this adapter. Once the screw is sufficiently loosened, the adapter should slide off the copper pipe. Note the presence of an O-ring on this adapter, which helps create a seal. This particular style is common for universal replacement spouts.

Goal: If the old tub spout used a slip-on adapter, loosen its set screw and slide it off the copper pipe.
