Remove Old Caulk and Clean Surface — Clean the Surface
Part of project
Bathtub Caulking · Step 2 of 8
In this video
Begin by assessing the area where the tub meets the wall for any old, cracked, or stained caulk. Using a utility knife or a scraper, carefully cut and scrape away all existing caulk or sealant from the joint. Be cautious to avoid scratching the tub or wall surfaces. Once the old caulk is mostly removed, pull out any loose pieces. Then, thoroughly clean the entire area with water and a disinfectant to eliminate dirt, grime, mold, or mildew. Rinse well and wipe off excess water. For a final cleaning step, wipe the seam with rubbing alcohol to remove any remaining residue or film, ensuring the surface is perfectly clean and dry for optimal caulk adhesion.
