What 99% of People Don't know about retaining walls. #diy
What happens here
Utilize 3/4 clear rock as the base material instead of class 5 aggregate. While slightly more expensive, 3/4 clear rock (angular stone without fine particles) locks into place, resisting frost heaving and hydraulic washing. This material doesn't require the same intense compaction as class 5, making the installation process more efficient. Only a light pass with a 150 lb plate compactor is needed to interlock the clear rock.
Goal: Lay a stable, well-draining rock base for the wall.
Tools and materials
- 150 lb Plate Compactor — Compacting the 3/4 clear rock base
- Skid Steer Loader ASV — Transporting and spreading the rock base material
