What happens here
Begin the excavation process for the retaining wall's base. For walls on flat, level ground, the rule of thumb is to dig down 1 foot below the finished grade. This depth allows for 6 inches of rock base and 6 inches for the first course of blocks to be buried, ensuring the wall is 'toed in' to resist movement. For walls on a slope, the excavation depth for the base will need to be greater.
Goal: Dig the foundation trench for the retaining wall.
