[Music] good morning good evening good afternoon you guys today we're going to be talking about a tilt deck trailer versus a conventional trailer and we're gonna get the information directly from the horsing pump back here comes my new Tilt deck trailer now I have not personally ran a tilt deck trailer since I was a kid and there was a there's a reason why because back when I was a kid you got to realize it was black and white TVs and computers weren't even a thing and we would take old rickety equipment even rickier than the stuff we've got and the trailer would go up and boom it would slam down and it would rattle your teeth and my dad always had me do it because he always told me when I was like 13 years old oh you're a better you're the best equipment operator you know because he didn't want to do it right well there's a trailer like this a good option a viable option some of you guys have experience I want to hear from you or do we go with a conventional trailer and we're going to talk directly with Jacob from Diamond C how you doing Jacob good long trip he just came up from Texas he do you drive all the way through because you look like you did you looked a little tired we stopped last night and in in Des Moines so it was a good trip just from Texas or from home to Des Moines the other four hours this afternoon and you're going to be going all around doing your thing right oh thank you yeah yeah yeah and this is Jacob's cameraman so if you guys want to know what's going on there's going to be more to this story go over and check it out at Diamond C right because you guys have a ton of videos over there yeah it'll be on our our YouTube channel on social channels all that good yeah and I I freaking love this guy he is honestly legitimately a phenomenal dude if you guys don't know it he's just he's the real deal but we're gonna get set up then we're gonna get things rocking and rolling so we'll be right back to you so walk us through this one so this is go basically the twin to the one we built and got from you last year right it's win as far as the the length of it is exactly the same 20 feet and 20 feet then uh the obviously the orange the size of the capacity of the axles is the same you got the lid up front so and the tie down system that's all very much the same a few subtle differences like this one is spring suspension versus torsion drum brakes versus uh disc brakes and then this one has a hydraulic jack versus a standard Jack so some things for you to be able to kind of contrast and say hey you know what I really think that you know for what I do I like the drum brakes better or or whatever you know just to kind of give you the uh these are the two most popular ways that trailers are set up okay and so anyways but the functionality is the big difference I mean you got tilt versus ramps and that's the TBD whether you like which one better so if a guy doesn't know any better and he hasn't had like I was telling off camera I'm not a big tilt deck fan yeah I've never been a tilt deck fan because I my trailer was from the 60s if I was lucky I think it may have been from the 50s and back when I was a kid growing up and the trailer would go up and it would slam down and it would rattle your teeth and my dad wouldn't even do it he put his son up there because I was the equipment operating I'm 13 years old you know and you believe anything your old man tells you at that point yep um have things changed since those days oh for sure yeah I mean this is a it was called a Hydra HDT is the name hydraulic dampen till so it's gonna be a cushion tilt no matter if you're in you know the weight of yourself walking up it or a 10 000 pound skid loader it's still going to just ease over which is great because it's not slamming down like you were talking about okay so a ten thousand pound loader is going to do it because I happen to have one that's 9980 pounds and by the time you stick my fat butt in there we're over 10g so we can we can test that there's no doubt yeah you pull that skid loader up just past the Tilt point and it's it comes down foreign [Music] machine does going up the brand new version trailer let's see how she does take her off let's see how she does going up to one thing how's it do going down we're gonna do something a little different we're gonna lock this trailer into the up position we're gonna see what happens bring it on up and this is what Jacob was saying you want to some lock your trailer in the up position if you got like a longer truck but we're gonna see if that hydraulic jack can handle that [Music] I think I'm starting to get persuaded to like tilt that's better than flat trailers good to go and you can haul a second one like two small pieces but really what guys buy this trailer for is hauling one skid loader and maybe using the stationary up front for attachments I set a bucket there have Forks there have pallets there whatever you know having that to be a small working area a working deck and then they're using the tilt as the ramp slash area to haul your machine so I see some fundamental differences out of here right out of the gate this is a black wood deck is that the right name for it and this is a Blackwood deck in your old one we started we put in a prototype composite floor it is 100 rubber recycled rubber product and it was something we were testing and traveling and trying to make work and while it worked great for your application and many others the majority of others it didn't work as well especially in the South because it would get so much warmer during the summer it would get soft and want to want to Bow between the cross members yeah and we just couldn't put and justify the amount of Steel it would take to support it whereas this product has been around for a while but it is still a treated pine product they just take it plain out the center of it and glue a quarter inch thick piece of rubber in it and they call it Blackwood it's called rubber infused Lumber does it weigh more because you've done that process it's actually still lighter than the composite the composite is a third again heavier than what this is so more strength less weight that's what you've gone with this yeah that and this is tried and true and that's what another thing we wanted you to be able to kind of see hey in the daily work environment where how you're going to use these trailers that I mean how the Blackwood performs one of the questions we got on Instagram we said hey what questions do you want to see Stanley answer in the future about this trailer and one of them was how does he like the black wood and does it help attraction in your environment because you get a lot more ice and snow and things like that during the winter than we do yeah down south and so they want to know how does this and then going up I could see because the the deck is tilted yeah it's about a 14 degree uh tilt angle so yeah you've got a little bit of an angle to go up and it's raining because I'm wiping off the microphone and the camera we may be able to test out just how well those how how that the traction is today because it's slick I mean it's it's better what better uh what better environment to do it in all right up next is the traction test some people say these surfaces get slick we got mud and water on it bring her up once let's see how well she stays on the trailer if she wants to slide foreign [Music] come on up again [Music] okay so we also got another fundamental difference that we've made on this and let's walk forward if you don't mind Jacob is in the front and that is the jack it doesn't look like you've changed the tongue itself out but on my old trailer we've got the good old standard wear your shoulder out cranking that thing up I'm not getting any younger type of a thing I really hate this Jack I wish it was a hydraulic jack and then on the new one we've got a hydraulic jack and I say it that way you guys because if you've never experienced a hydraulic jack to me it's the fundamentally best thing you can ever put on a trailer is a hydraulic jack it's like having your bread now sliced for you instead of going in with a worn out butter knife and trying to saw yourself off a piece of toast um I'll tell you yesterday at 5 45 in the morning we were getting ready to leave when I backed up to it and was able just to drop it on there it was game over I mean it was so great and for us when it's 110 in the summer it's I mean you don't get in the truck sweating and and you can actually go to lunch and have a nice have a nice experience because you're not soaked in sweat so and The Time Saver too oh no doubt it's so much you walk out and you go oh my jet my trip it's got to go up a little bit Yeah you get it just right you let go of your button get back the truck drop it off lay it on top of it I freaking love these soil what hydraulic jack do you guys go with and why so this is a Stillwell brand Jack it is a Stillwell okay I love Stillwell Jack Stillwell's a good brand um it has articulating foot on the bottom so I mean it's it moves around depending on the ground that it's on which is I mean it's not a big deal but it does help you know if you're on uneven ground but outside of that I mean it's they're straightforward they've been around a while they make they specialize in different cylinders we use their cylinders on our dump trailers on our hydraulic dovetail Traders still well it's hard to beat it's just a good name in the industry for sure so this this one has the power unit in the front of the battery itself contained it's uh so so the Tilt is strictly how dampened Hydraulics it's not powered by the battery the battery and pump is just for your jack oh so this this entire setup right here Powers the jack the jack and how often will a guy have to charge that battery up to keep your jack operation or does it do it automatically from there it is a charge through the truck so I watched uh there's a trickle a tester charger right there and right now we're in the green and it came off the yellow on the way up here so you can imagine inside this cord the wire is only so big so I mean it's just a small current that's working on that trickle charge but it was enough to move us on my trip up here now it is a good idea if the trailer is going to sit that you can use this 110 plug with an extension cord and that'll charge a completely dead battery up in about six hours which is good it's a five amp charger so it just depends on the usage and how more how much it sits either one as to how much you gotta have to charge it we also have a different hitch on the front yeah so we've got a 2 and 5 16 inch ball hitch and then my old trailer we've got your standard pintle hitch right so you guys do both swab yeah and if you wanted to run if you prefer panel I don't care anymore no okay you can do either one this is what they call a Demco easy latch so the cool thing is like when you're which we can we can even show here I'll just show you [Music] so now since it's the easy latch it can be closed like this it'll automatically like you don't have to touch it and that's your standard latch on your diamond Seas yes hooked up already which all those starting but anyways that makes hooking up and not hooking I mean like that right there how fast was that and then versus if we were at the old trailer we'd be here another probably two or three minutes still yeah trying to get it off the ground and you guys that know look at that and you know I don't see a safety pin in that no safety pin requires safety pin required Demco does not I mean they don't typically a couple of Manufacturers are going to send you the required you know extra safety pin or whatnot and Demco sells it to us just like this and they say there's not an additional pin required all right let's go through the specs on this thing what are the axles on it two seven thousand pound leopard axles custom paint or standard paint so standard paint process but it is the orange is a custom up charge we have eight different colors that are no charge but on the orange it is up charge slightly over standard and if you guys really want to go nuts and you buy yourself a brand new Ford pickup truck Chevy I'd swore at some of you guys sorry or a ram and you have a very specific color like like you have here with Jacob's truck you send him the color code and you can match any color as long as you have the color code and you guys can be rolling down the road with your trailer exactly matching your truck yeah it's pretty close very close I mean the powder formulas will come out maybe slightly different but it's like a shade or so I mean most like 99.99 everybody's thrilled how close it actually gets so it definitely it's cool that that is something that's somewhat unique because all the other guys they just want to pump out as many black ones as they can get and so definitely with us colors is a it's something we really enjoy doing and like this I mean if somebody was to steal one of these like they did your other one it'd be a lot harder to hide you know obviously that's I call it cheap insurance when I do videos on the colors because I'm like number one people see you coming number two they know Stanley is on the job and number three it's a whole lot harder to hide if they were to steal it so good points that I never thought of okay so let's see how she operates Jacob so this is a mechanical ledge it's what it's just the extra um it's the it's the main hold down latch that holds the bed in the down the travel position so it's easy spring pin now we're open and so right now there's a hydraulic valve here this is the open position this is closed position and that close stops it to where it won't open it's a hydraulic lock valve so the main purpose of that actually is if you were needed to load a longer wheelbase vehicle you can lock the bed in the up position to where that it doesn't tilt prematurely like your tires get past the Tilt point and it stays up to where the back tires get on you don't have you'll rarely use that unless you needed to lock it out to be able to load a long vehicle you'll just leave it open all the time so you you you can this are you telling me this trailer I can lock it up I can drive my Skitty all the way up on it I can leave my Skitty and go out and unlock it and she'll just yeah that's the that's the point of it mainly for long wheel base Vehicles maybe your truck so your truck broke down but I'll get it I get that but I'm just wondering how much weight it can handle because it could is it ideal not really but at UPS you could do that okay I just wouldn't recommend bringing it all the way up to the front that's a whole lot of pressure when you're talking about a ten thousand pound skid at the front versus a eight thousand nine thousand pound truck distributed the length of the trailer okay so yeah so we'll leave it open and then so she's open now it's just going to easily tilt all the way to the ground [Music] so once she's down like that if I don't want her tipping that's all I do yep hydraulic lock it keeps the fluid from being able to go back and forth into the reservoir but I can see where you would say it's not a smart idea to do because that isn't that's not a lift cylinder that's just a cylinder design made to be a working cylinder rod it's made to actually just keep the fluid from passing too quick that way it cushions it when you come down okay yeah for sure so that's it and now you would just drive your your skid steer just past the Tilt point and she would ease back down and then you'd lock it out with the mechanical latch and you're ready to go after you of course after you chain down so but super easy huh I'm already ribs flipping no flipping ramps no flipping Rams I mean I love your max wraps don't get me wrong but that looks a whole lot easier I mean that's like next level easy almost huh big fat storage box up front Brian asked if you were gonna get in this one too but he wants me to curl their last one I crawled in and my wife had second thoughts on letting me up can you put Fork pockets on a trailer like this okay [Music] I made a mistake oh my God the guys freaking love these Fork Pockets I would say that's another one if you got a chance to do it so where would you put the fork pockets on something like this you flip to the driver's side and they would come in and decide just like it does on this one okay yeah they would go in the stationary deck part up in here okay yeah so like I said the the difference the suspension you know this is a standard spring suspension has The Equalizer in the middle the difference on this one is torsion which is like a rubber band you know arm basically is how the Hub rides on the Rubber Arm and so um they act kind of independently versus these at have to work in tandem with the equalizer okay so I'd be interested to know once you get to pull both what do you how do you think do you think that the torsion actually rides smoother than the spring or did can you even tell the difference about the two okay that'll be interesting because this has been the smoothest riding trailer okay so it's been about a month since I filmed that video with Jacob and I really wanted to put this trailer to use before I started to talk about what I've noticed with it now this trailer was supposed to go out to the crew we need a second equipment trailer in the company but I also need an equipment trailer in the company and this trailer is not going to go out to the crew I think this is maybe the nicest equipment trailer that I've ever ran in my life and that includes over the other Diamond C trailer the suspension it doesn't make a difference which one you get they're both just smooth as butter I like the braking system on this one better than on my other that's got hydraulic brakes this has drums I like this much better the Jack the Demco lit hit this does have a safety pin I still can't get over that nut not needing a safety pin that kind of throws me for a loop but I'll just show you some of the stuff I've been hauling because I actually have been putting it to the test I hauled this 10 000 pound mini excavator back from Wisconsin on it and at one point I was just kind of relaxing listening to the music and I forgot I was hauling that mini X behind me and this is only a three-quarter ton truck greasable hubs versus an oil bath hub what do you use and why so from the small ax was like a 3500 up to a 7K is all grease and then from 8K up is oil and why is because we rely on the professionals who build the axles Lippard that's what they do and so and they there's some there is some science behind it I don't know exactly but there's some science behind like revolutions the size of the Hub the oil cavity what makes sense for those size you know those size axles or else they would use grease all the way up or they would use oil down low as well so they at that split when the Hub gets bigger at the 8K level that's when they go to oil okay so how often so deep since these this is a greasable hub how often should we be greasing that depends on mileage I mean if you're if you run quite a few miles I mean you need to be greasing them every probably you know once every six months depending on the mileage and could be once every year it just really depends how often do you Grayson I've been greasing them quite a bit they just feel get hot you know yeah so I don't know like dip the freaking worries about everything everything he'll be like you know like where you can't where you can't hold your hand on them you know it gets that hot then you know guys I'll feel like hey these things I can't touch them it's way too hot and so we we went too leopard not too long ago and asked them to draft us a paper that shows you know what is acceptable Hub temperatures and they they an acceptable range is up to 400 degrees and anything north of 400 then you…
