We don't have the right materials to finish (Ep.3)
What happens here
After the sill plates are secured, a black plastic vapor barrier (or moisture barrier) is laid out across the ground within the concrete foundation, specifically covering the crawl space area. This barrier prevents moisture from the ground from rising into the wooden structure, protecting it from rot and decay. The barrier is cut to fit the dimensions of the crawl space and extends slightly up the foundation walls. Workers unfold and spread the large sheets of plastic, ensuring complete coverage. A utility knife is used to trim the material to size and create neat edges around any penetrations or corners.
Goal: Prevent moisture intrusion from the ground into the building structure
