We don't have the right materials to finish (Ep.3)

What happens here

After the walls are framed, OSB sheathing is applied to the exterior walls. These panels provide shear strength to the structure, making it resistant to lateral forces like wind and seismic activity, and also serve as a substrate for exterior finishes. Workers carefully position the sheathing panels over the framed walls, aligning them with studs and ensuring proper staggering of seams. Pneumatic nail guns are used to rapidly fasten the sheathing to all studs and plates. This method allows for quick and secure attachment across the entire wall surface, providing the necessary rigidity and preparing the walls for exterior finishing. The accuracy and speed of pneumatic fasteners are key to efficient sheathing installation.

Goal: Provide shear strength and a substrate for exterior finishes

Tools and materials

  • Air compressor — Providing compressed air to the pneumatic nail guns
  • Air hose — Connecting pneumatic nail guns to the air compressor
  • Circular saw — Cutting sheathing panels to fit around openings or irregular shapes
  • Measuring tape — Measuring and marking cuts for sheathing panels
  • OSB/Plywood sheathing panels — Providing shear strength and a surface for exterior cladding
  • Pneumatic nail gun — Fastening sheathing panels to the wall studs and plates
