We don't have the right materials to finish (Ep.3)

What happens here

The workers proceed to frame the floor joists, which are the horizontal structural members that support the floor. I-joists (engineered wood joists) are used, which are known for their strength and stability. The joists are laid out according to the construction plans, typically parallel to each other and at specific intervals. Workers measure and cut the I-joists to the required lengths. They then use pneumatic nail guns to fasten the joists into metal joist hangers attached to the rim joists (perimeter framing members). This fastening technique ensures a strong and consistent connection, crucial for the floor's integrity. The rapid firing of the pneumatic nail gun allows for quick assembly and consistent nail depth.

Goal: Construct the horizontal support structure for the floor

Tools and materials

  • Air compressor — Providing compressed air to the pneumatic nail guns
  • Air hose — Connecting pneumatic nail guns to the air compressor
  • Circular saw — Cutting I-joists to precise lengths
  • I-joists — The main horizontal structural members of the floor system
  • Joist hangers — Metal connectors that support the ends of joists where they meet a beam or ledger
  • Measuring tape — Accurately measuring joist lengths and placement
  • Pneumatic nail gun — Fastening joists to hangers and other framing members quickly and efficiently
