Kitchen Sink Drain Repair (Easy DIY Fix)

What happens here

To remove the old basket strainer, work from both above and below the sink. From underneath, use channel locks to loosen the large nut that secures the strainer to the sink. It may be helpful to use a screwdriver (such as a Milwaukee brand screwdriver shown in the video) inserted into the slots of the strainer from the top of the sink to hold it in place and prevent it from spinning while you loosen the nut below. Once the nut is completely removed, the entire basket strainer can be pulled out from the top of the sink. After removal, clean the sink drain hole thoroughly using an all-purpose cleaner (like Mrs. Meyer's Clean Day) and a paper towel to remove any old sealant, grime, or residue.

Goal: Completely remove the old basket strainer and prepare the sink drain opening for the new installation.
