Kitchen Sink Drain Repair (Easy DIY Fix)
What happens here
Next, assemble the new PVC P-trap components. Attach a large nut and a rubber washer to the end of the J-bend. Insert the J-bend into the wall drain pipe, hand-tightening the nut. Take the longer tailpiece and slide a nut and rubber washer onto it, then connect it to the basket strainer on the sink. Temporarily connect the J-bend to the tailpiece to measure the required length. It is likely that the tailpiece will be too long. Use a pipe cutter, such as a RIDGID FC-1250 model, to cut the tailpiece to the appropriate length. When cutting, avoid cutting into any printed letters or markings on the pipe, as these areas might not provide a perfectly smooth surface for the rubber washer to seal against.
Goal: Prepare the new P-trap components and size the tailpiece correctly for installation.
