Helping My Neighbor Install a 50-Gal Rheem Gas Water Heater
What happens here
Connect the gas line to the water heater. Before connecting, install a drip leg (sediment trap) on the gas line to catch any debris, which was missing from the previous installation. Use pipe dope on all threaded gas connections to ensure a gas-tight seal. Use 'Knipex' pliers and a pipe wrench to tighten the connections. Then, connect the yellow flexible gas line from the drip leg to the water heater's gas control valve.
Goal: Connect the gas supply to the water heater with all necessary safety components.
