DIY Farmhouse Dining Table

What happens here

After the main tabletop glue-up, any natural imperfections such as knots or small cracks are filled to create a smooth, durable surface. Two-part epoxy resin is mixed on a piece of cardboard, then carefully applied into the knots and voids using a small stick. The epoxy is worked into all crevices to ensure a complete fill. This process strengthens the wood and creates an even surface, preparing it for subsequent finishing steps. The epoxy is allowed to cure fully.

Goal: Create a smooth and strong tabletop surface by filling imperfections

Tools and materials

  • Cardboard Piece — For mixing the epoxy resin
  • Gloves — To protect hands when working with epoxy
  • Mixing Stick — To mix and apply the epoxy
  • Two-Part Epoxy Resin — To fill and stabilize knots and cracks in the tabletop

What they say

Hide

the next day I removed all the clamps from our tabletop and I decided to start hiding all the knots that are found on the Douglas fir wood species so I picked up this five minute epoxy mix it up and poured it into each individual knot sometimes even any imperfections that are left from the planer that would get a little bit epoxy as well now even though they call it five minute epoxy I would give it at least an hour or two to dry mostly because you don't want it to gunk up all of your 80 120 grit sandpaper instead be nice and hard and that way easy to sand now to get started
