What happens here

This DIY project outlines the final preparations for getting a turbo-charged GMC Yukon XL ready for dyno tuning. The tasks include fixing an oil drain leak, relocating and extending sensors (O2 and IAT), wiring up cooling fans, fabricating and installing a downpipe, and addressing charge pipe and wastegate line issues. The project involves various mechanical and fabrication skills, with an emphasis on improvisation and problem-solving to ensure the vehicle is safe and ready for performance testing.

you're not really working until you're pleading now i'm working yeah you like shoved it in there that's what she said but not you your grandma is like the most badass grandma ever not anymore oh it looks stock to me i think we need to take this thing to yellow belly and race with him in the passenger seat you think so it would be hilarious i think it would be funny dino preparations continue on uncle rob got to do some random things today like put the iat sensor in move the o2 sensor extend that harness wastegate plumbing something about the downpipe i don't know hook up the fans to a switch um tell don to suck it suck it john second call what are you what do you got all everything all blowed out here trash cooler want to keep it up so you just ripped it off right in the middle of the floor with a fan i'm your biggest fan no i'm dirty dan no patrick if you're wondering uh logan is not here right now but she will be back before we go to drive this thing poor monte carlo over there ralph just waiting for some parts to come in so this is basically the work uh the list we're gonna work with here i need a charge pipe clamp um just because i couldn't find one there's something laying around here i can use for this gotta put something on there gotta tighten down the oil drain because they're in the filming of the last video i realized i would have to take the compressor cover completely off to get an wrench in there and tighten it completely and since we wanted to start in here i just put it together anyway so just hand tight so i'm going to take that off tighten everything down finagle the last bolt in there because for the same reason i'm going to have to pull this this uh clamp piece out to get the last bolt in there because it's pretty tight we got to make wastegate lines we got to extend the o2 sensor and thread one into the um the crossover pipe which is it has a bung in it already in there you just can't see it wire something up for the fans make a down pipe change the oil filter and iit sensor bung and extension we can cross bung off of there not even use a bung this pipe is eighth of an inch thick so we can just drill it and tap it and run this right in there it's not going to matter it's just fine uh the fans this is not the permanent solution for fans this is just what the speed shop near cooper's house had just until i source a actual factory um e-fan setup like ashton has in his truck over here like this you know the one from the escalade or denali or whatever i'm gonna start with the iit sensor just because i'm holding it already we gotta pull this pipe out i feel bad pulling it out because logan had one heck of a time putting it in but uh we're gonna pull it out and i get to put it back in if you remember from the last video the comments made about using a screwdriver to tighten this everyone's like oh i just use the nut driver on the thingy i forgot my little rinky-dink toolbox had those because honestly i never ever used these so here we go make you guys happy now this is all kind of off i'm just spitballing where do i want to put the intake temp sensor we don't know the true reasoning but you're not supposed to put the iat sensor right by the blow off valve probably because the blowout valve opens then it contaminates the reading of the sensor momentarily what is this rear end iris rear end on a pitch in camaro you think like right here would be good like where my thumb is yeah okay testing it real quick it's going to work i'm not going to thread it in because the sensor has like the thread sealer already worked into it so i don't want to waste that um i'm going to clean this pipe out real good before we send it home i don't know if it's going to come off it looks like it's pretty well on there nice random shirt by the way thank you stapleton autoworks.com get yourself a random shirt save some money i am not a pro it's either going to come out or it's going to break those are our options we're sticking to it i don't think it's going to come off i don't think either can we just get like a normal wrench on there this is a strap-on tool so it shouldn't flex like that but it just did i really have no expectation that it's actually coming out but we're not quitters and we're gonna try anyway isn't that right so we just heated it for like a while use your imagination here i come over here and i'm all like okay we're ready to go and then it just goes live just like that so it's gonna come out oh the threads are gone there's definitely no threads on that no more ashton what do we do now she weld it in we'll just weld it right there there you go for real like i don't know how i even got this bolt in here because i don't remember taking these little pieces off ever so i got to take them off to get this out and also turning this enables me to get an an wrench in here to tighten the drain random nonsense pretty much just getting after it so i'm just geeking out a little bit on the details here straighten up this clamp put it on and obviously it's like really tight it's kind of a weird weird angle but it just has to be that way but it was not trimmed very well so using the clamp itself as a guide i am taking off the excess material for a cleaner look once installed that way you don't you know you don't have like these weird thick you know blobs of miscut nonsense sticking out just but you can clean up these silicone boots really really well if you use something hard as a guide look at that okay back to important things that's all tight uh i can put that back in now but i'm not going to because i'm going to leave some more room for myself to run some wires so now i'm working on extending the iat wires i read that it was the two on the end the brown one and the black one also confirmed by the same ones ashton did on his truck so rather than test it i just ran with it trusted it i cut these pulled them back through the loom a little bit at least to get them back to here and extended them to go room plug in over here uh if you really wanted to be superfly you could trace this the whole way back through here and pull it out not have to add any wire at all but i'm not gonna do that also i found some some wire loom here it's um kind of melted found it in the trash can actually i'm not proud of it but like i'm not really ashamed of it either so looks good to me i found another o2 sensor laying around so we screwed that into here right in there if you can see that i gotta dig out the plug for that somewhere i don't know exactly where it is i'll defined it and extend that to do the same thing we're getting somewhere is it a good idea to let him run around with no leash on i don't know is that a good idea i think he's lying to me he's just telling me what i want to hear don't poop on anything don't do it well now that's done i'm gonna get started on the down pipe for one reason one reason only i know how i work if i do all of the other stuff first i'm just gonna be like screw it and i'll rig something up real quick stick it up and take the hood off just to drive it but if i do the down pipe now before the other stuff is done then i have a down pipe and it's not sticking out the hood and i can put the hood on it which is the end of the day what i want little tricks like that figure out how you work what are you doing ruger yeah that table's pretty heavy you're not going to be able to move it back next day going to get the down pipe ironed out i got you know some progress made the primary piece is gonna be here the secondary one that's gonna send it under uh needs a little bit less angle than that piece i had which just happens to be the other side that i cut off the u-bend i feel like a broken record every time i do something involving pipes because i say the same stuff every time i don't want to reiterate every single thing i do every single time i do this like if you want like an in detail explanation of how to cut pipes and orient pipes and how i do that i did a video you know making this pipe on the cold side there's one making a down pipe for the escalade anything like that it's gonna be much more descriptive of what i'm doing here a brief break from the action baylor just went to summit to get some wheels and tires for his grandma's car okay what did he get he got his grandma some freaking bfg alterings and he put the white letters out you sir are a freaking pimp of pimps look at this hog your grandma is like the most badass grandma ever not anymore well who's this this thing it was grandma it was my grandmother well you just got your grandma's what i'm new to this apparently so we got this thing picked up to uh get at the downpipe if you want to get yourself some pit vipers you can type in stapleton 42 in the uh checkout as a coupon code and save yourself some money quick tip uh the pit vapor dudes are some bros of mine they're pretty cool people that's why i use them but also aside from the down pipe which is right up here so we'll have to get a piece to come down and kick it this way and then probably another one i'm just gonna build it to the point where it kind of points down here and then eventually uh we'll work it to connect to the rest of the stock nonsense but after we get the down pipe to this point we're gonna have to take this guy right here this other two plug and either cut it and extend it or slice up this loom to get it pulled up so i can plug it into the sensor that's up there you know something i've been saying pretty much since i started working on cars i don't know when the first time i said this was but you're not really working until you're pleading now i'm working is that not the truest thing though like once you draw blood you're in it you're just just in there doing it just getting it done and it feels really good so i'm not saying smash your knuckles on things for fun but like you know get in there and tear it up just like i did to make this downpipe while i wasn't filming it this is the part that goes up at the top um it'll set you know use your imagination this is what it is positioned like um i know that these two pieces are gonna stay where they're at i'm not so sure about the last two i may reorient that a little bit uh i gotta get rid of this ride height travel sensor because the arm's broken anyway it doesn't matter i'll probably just tack these in a couple more spots just leave them that way because the way it sits right now this downpipe uh points at the ground near the transmission which is fine eventually i will finish it to the exhaust but for right now it's just going to stay like this until i can you know really get in there and science it out this is going to do the job just fine that was one of two items on my list for tonight the other one is the o2 sensor extension so we're gonna get at that right now this is the culprit this dingle bobber right here i know the right move is to peel this up but man it looks like this whole thing is wrapped in tape i don't know we'll see i'm gonna shut the camera off get in there and tear it up report back momentarily so literally as soon as i shut the camera off roll back under there a light bulb went off in my head and i thought hey you know what this doesn't need to be here anymore i'll just unclip this and take the whole thing back up through here then i won't have to do that pretty amazing because uh it occurred to me when ashton said when he was doing his truck at some point he had like tanked a speed bump or something and it just had this wire like dangling so he was like oh that's convenient he just picked it up and plugged it right in so how about that not a bad deal at all because it just runs down right over there i can probably unclip it one more time plug it right in without extending anything and then just bundle up the second o2 connector because that one's not going to get used anymore i could just cut it off but you know we're not going to do that guys this is so money so money check this out just just look okay see you know got this whole little dingle hopper here pulled up here's the o2 plug into the original connector catch me not cutting any wires how about that i'm pretty pumped about this just pull it up and plug it right in you don't even have to cut or extend anything it's one of those times you just you just feel really really satisfied like you know when you're watching those videos like pressure washing and stuff and it's just like when you just picked it up you just put that in there you don't got to do anything it's just cool i'm just basking in this moment right now i'm not going to let it pass right away because i'm i've worked hard for this okay back to work i just pulled that behind here so it's flush against the the inner fender and the second one the farther out one happened to kind of end up in the same place as the mass airflow sensor plug which is also not going to get used anymore but it's still got a wire coming out of it for the coolant temp level whatever so i just bundled them up i'm gonna stick them there that way they can uh you know just hang out under the coolant reservoir in that general vicinity and on top of that the reservoir doesn't even have to move either so this is just this is just going really really well you know what would be funny leave a comment if you think i should do this should i put the stock air box back in here and just run a tube to connect to it it's right there like you know do the cane and drop in there so it'll still pull from the fender and trim out the box corner so this pipe can fit but just have the turbo with a a pipe just goes boop right into the stock ass air box because freaking suck it that's why might be cool and effective because it does pull cold air now i'm going to pull the crossover back off to put no two sensor bung into it which i forgot about before put it back on last time otherwise i would have done that already logan's back finished bolted up right now gonna put that bung in and just gonna quickly rig up the fan wires just you know touch them to the battery or something to make them work for now it'll be fine until i find a junkyard fan set up like ashton's truck until then we do it the old-fashioned way man i don't want to pull that thing off sometimes you're just not really in the mood and that's me right now if i'm being honest you know i'd rather work on that but i don't have anything to put it back together with because i'm tired of not doing stuff with stuff yeah that sensor we tried to get out before and the thread stripped out was garbage but ashton had an extra one from his truck laying around gave it to me so i'm using that the plug i plugged it in up there just because i want to see if it would reach i think i'm gonna put it here somewhere but i may angle it a little bit just so it's easier to get to with a wrench if need be so i don't have to extend any of these that's good it's gonna rip the rest of this out and get it welded up went to go to my box where i thought my 02 bung was and all i had left were aluminum ones and i was like man where did my steel one go and i remember like a few weeks ago i gave it to ashton because he needed one for his truck so he gave me the sensor i gave him my bunk we were just at summit could have got more now we don't have one so went through the scrap pile over there and we're going to try to harvest this one seems fitting i may try to get this sensor out too just because i know this is the one that it came with and it worked the one he gave me might looks a little bit different i don't know if i trust it but the last time we tried to take one out it did not work we're just going to cut it out do the best we can the stuff you know coming in this way and then we're going to come in that way then i'm going to go like this and then like that or maybe i'll go like like this and then like that and like that then like that i don't know never underestimate the amount of precision can be achieved when you have a sawzall and nothing else to be precise with if we're really really crafty we could go over there and put on the lathe but i don't think i'm supposed to use their lathe without them being here so i'm not going to do that and see how much different the gasket looks in this one that we found in the pile versus the one that i got and i want these bolts these bolts are nicer than the bolts i have cool well got it out the threads only kind of died on this one so uh yeah i don't think it's gonna work but now we're gonna do some more precision sawzall maneuvering to get this extra crud off of here so yeah damn it no that's what you call a successful harvest i mean if you really wanted to get tricky with it you could flap disk down the well a little bit more and get this whole like little seating ring exposed but i don't really care it doesn't matter to me so i'm not going to do that but you could if you wanted to it's beautiful you're just judging me i feel like i spent a lot of time doing really weird stuff with this sawzall like stuff that is not meant to do i condone it yeah now we're ready to drill the whole for the bung you know prime example of a harvested o2 bung that now has a new lease on life where it otherwise would have ended up probably getting shipped to china and made it into like a longer i don't know but now it's going back on fun stuff just gonna hog it until it gets there works for me we're just gonna send her home welder i use is a fronius magic wave 230. it's freaking awesome i really don't do it justice i mean i'm a pretty good welder but i am not capable of hitting a ceiling on this thing like there's just so many settings and stuff i don't even understand it's pretty crazy got a little bit of a problem here uh can't find the o2 sensor i just found it i'm going to let her look for it did you find it no i'm pretty sure i brought it down there cause you did where to go sure i don't know what you did well i must have just done something really stupid with it it's just gone forever good job i saw it when you rolled under there i just want to see how long you would look for it that's rude well it goes in here just perfectly it's easy to get to just like i wanted and it's in plain sight now it's screwed in there can't lose it again and it's gonna plug it up right in here right where it's supposed to go and i think this is funny this is like a super nice wastegate and it's just surrounded by all of this rusty just crud like this is like putting diamond jewelry in like a walmart bag hey now don't disrespect him don't do him like that i'm going to pull that vacuum line down here because this is what is going to go to the wastegate and it's definitely not going to want to rub on the manifold that's not good we'll probably sneak it up right up with this oil line here or something [Music] uh logan's putting the plastic skid plate thingy back on and then we're gonna put this thing on the ground and bolt up everything up here baylor's making all kinds of noise hey knock it off trying to film stuff god candy man going through some serious yellow belly withdrawal where's he going oh boy don't do it kids i didn't tell you to do that by the way she just just picked it up and did it was like wow this burns yeah it felt real good builds character rub it in take the truck yonder light off for the the final time for today ah i'm blind wait oh there we go we're good you look like your finger has not fully evaporated yet it stings a little well you know what time it is it's time to do your favorite thing again this whole process is like your favorite thing i don't care about that i'm gonna bolt the turbo back up and i guess you're gonna do those clamps and mess with that light for a while and then i'll come finish it for you when you can't do it i'm gonna do it myself okay we'll see about that i'm pulling for you okay these are fun bolts to get to where are the thingies the clamps in the bag hit the ground here…
