What happens here
This project details the process of installing custom turbo oil feed and drain lines on a vehicle (GMC Yukon XL). It involves accessing the oil pan, drilling and tapping for the drain line, fabricating and assembling the AN lines, and finally connecting them to the turbocharger and engine's oil system. The project highlights improvisational methods common in DIY settings when specific tools or easy access are unavailable.

(19,998 characters)no i just kind of yanked on it full sin i know some of you guys are sitting there going be like this i know okay if you know the rules you're allowed to break them do with that what you will pretty much the last major thing that uncle rob needs to run oil feed and the oil drain for the turbo so that's we're going to work on right now i'm not exactly sure what the plan is for the the drain i'm kind of lazy and i want this to be as easy as possible but there's a front diff in there that kind of blocks easy access to drilling and tapping the pan because i was just going to go about it you know drill the hole tap it and you know spray some crud in there change the oil to get the shavings out because yolo trying to avoid dropping the diff to weld that in are you not cold not really not yet not yet that's the key word yet but i'm thinking we'll start with the well i don't know i guess i'm just gonna have to go under there and start looking at stuff and decide what the plan of attack is also this triple 7 build happening right now this square body chevy getting ls swapped is turning out freaking awesome also due to popular demand i just put these hoodies on the website or she's not wearing hers because it's dirty rip yeah i literally just got these for like me and my friends and stuff because they're pretty expensive like they're like the good good quality stuff it's not like the regular thick cotton ones they don't fade and they fit better it doesn't make sense for me to like keep them in stock because each one of them costs me way more than a shirt does so what i'm going to do is i'm going to put them on the website page will be live for a day or two and then i'll turn that page off and i'll place the order so it's not going to be right away it's probably going to be i'd say two weeks the earliest four weeks the most when they actually ship but that's what you'll be getting it's the same graphic as the t-shirt except on the front the logo is bigger and you know it's got the regular hoodie pocket and stuff doing your best vanna white impression i guess who's that the i don't know the lady from one of those game shows this is there like this oh yeah okay there you go boom stapleton autoworks.com get it on the list because it's not going to be live for very long also side note you'll see the random shirt listing on there if you pick a random shirt in your size you will get a random shirt and save some money take a look at what we got going on under here oh drop my phone cool yeah i don't want to drop this pan but there's got to be a way to do it without dropping it and still putting the drain in the right spot i might be able to get away with just dropping the starter doing it here but then the lion's not gonna have a straight shot up that could work maybe i'll pull this off we'll pull this thing off here and get a better look at it this thing does already have a gnarly transmission cooler installed it's a csf radiators built and it's a freaking hoss it's actually it's technically an oil cooler but transparent cooler worked just fine this is welded on here because the store i went to did not have the m22 o-ring base fitting so i just welded it because you can do that when you have a welder well just miss the unbolting of this but smooth it's off wow look at all that room for activities wow i was totally freaking out over nothing see we can just move all that stuff down and probably drill and tap right there it's wow there's a lot of room up here i was concerned about there not being a bunch of room up here because i'm used to the escalade and why is that significant the escalade has rack and pinion steering so there's a big steering rack right in here this thing it's got the old-school steering box up there to that rusty boat anchor so there's not that much stuff going on up here which leaves this wide open for activities i love it when stuff like this happens but yeah this is like a where's that real ball thing at we lost that oh it's way over there yeah get that i don't know i think it looks like a moldy fruit i think it's a black walnut what the [ __ ] when i picked this thing up from my grandma's house because that's where my uncle had it uh these things were freaking everywhere like we must have picked out 20 of them from like up in the fenders and stuff like on the intake manifold there's still a bunch of them in there they even got into the hvac blower motor and if you want to see the shenanigans all the way back from the day i picked it up from my uncle go to the uncle rob yukon playlist and it's all there like the day i got it you hear my uncle talk about it everything get some of the backstory on this but moving on uh let's find some tools to get those wires out of the way i feel like i'm in spongebob and i'm squidward and nobody likes me and they're just like throwing tomatoes at me and stuff oh like when he's cleaning up the stage oh when he comes out there with the mop and everyone starts cheering it's like spongebob and everybody's cheering for him but like squidward comes out and they're like no the spongebob revolutions are very popular around here i'm sure some of you guys have noticed i make them a lot so to see how many of you guys watch spongebob do you like spongebob references or use them on a daily basis and get looked at funny by everyone else like we do leave a comment because you're not allowed so just happen to notice that that plug-in light i was using which is actually supposed to be hung on something but i'm rolling around on the floor because we're gonna see if it breaks it fits perfectly in that balance and i'm gonna tape it so it doesn't fall on me because you want it to follow me so you can laugh at me but i'm not going to let that happen patiently waiting for it to fall yeah well this is not going to happen because i'm going to tape it well dang i don't know about you guys but i think we just invented something here this is your truck rice rock light kit all the truckee hundos and jeeps are gonna have this after that home depot lighting aisle are you sure you're not from the south i don't know i say i'm a misplaced midwesterner but i'm pretty good at this stuff wing feasible use a smaller person who can just sit there just take it that's actually quite convenient yeah i'm gonna need a shower though it's kind of gross i uh i took my hoodie off because i don't want to get it all disgusting and then the proprietor of said hoodies but i only have one of them so that shows you how many of them don't exist currently but that's about to change how's that light working out for you great is it coming out cool does that piece of plastic come off now like the whole bracket thing this yeah can't pull on it am i gonna break something no what about these things that's all part of it it should unclip from the other side see the other bracket yeah i don't think that's bolted to anything is it are you sure there's no bolt going in the bottom side i don't see that apparently there's like a little peg here and you just slide it to the side and it comes down you have some uh dirt on your lip there there's probably more on it now you just smeared it do i have like a dirt mustache um if you did that a couple more times you might it's a new makeup palette patented it's called uh crusty yukon she'll be back momentarily or not she might be gone forever we'll see pretty much just gotta get this out of the way enough to drill and tap a hole here i don't think we're gonna have to pull the balancer to do that but well we'll see this is great best case scenario like you literally so much room up here to do this could not have been better i was really kind of like frightened because i didn't want to pull that front dish out i will have to pull that balancer eventually because uh fluid ampere sent us that awesome sfi certified one this is the stock camaro size diameter pulley which is a little bit bigger than the stock truck pulley the monte carlo has a stock truck pulley on the crank so that balancer on the monte carlo would be a de facto overdrive pulley it's overdriven from truck spec but not really overdrive overdrive it'd still be good for a couple more pounds of boost or something so we thought heck we'll throw that one on the monte carlo and then we'll do another under drive one for this one because it's going to be turboed better use of it that way i'm going to get the tap out and the drill bit and kind of see where we want to put it this is actually where the drains are on the escalade there's no like weird bump here on my pan though but i got one here and right there but since we only need one um i'm kind of think it's gonna end up about here this is about the cleanest way to come away from the balancer if that ball kit wasn't there i'd put it here but we can put it right here and then run this line up to the turbo that way this is the fitting we're going to be using here it's just a 10 a.m on one side and i think it's half inch npt pipe thread on this side we're just going to drill and tap the pan i'm fully capable of welding it on there but as i've said in previous episodes this is an everyday build most everyday guys doing this in their garage don't have a tig water they could just fire up and throw stuff together like this the everyday guy is going to drill and tap it just like ashton did when he turboed this truck at his home garage before he worked here this thing is essentially what uncle rob is and it's actually going to get a uh a 5 3 we just sent that 4a to the moon and uh yeah there will be a video on the resurrection of his truck i filmed it blowing up on the dyno all that just saving that footage to be one video so what was that i couldn't get it all off where well there's all kinds of room under there now you see that big flat part on the front that's we're gonna drill a hole and put this fitting so got the tap here the drill bit size we need for this tap is some weird fraction like 45 69 or something like that which we probably don't have here but we got something close how many of you guys actually ever use the exact right size drill bit when you're tapping stuff that's like pretty coarse like this because i always get it kind of close and then just let the tap do a little bit of extra hogging not really right way to do it but it's worked for me so we're gonna try that again here this thing calls for a 45 64 drill bit don't have one of those but we found a 9 16 i've done a fair share of wallering in my day so i think we can make this happen might be wondering if i'm cold right now i am i'm just pretending i'm not because that's what you do when you grow up in the north stick it in there and start doing stuff just made the kind of the starter hole with a smaller bit because that big one would take a while and it would walk around so when you can starting your hole with a smaller drill bit that locates it much more precisely don't want to get my wolf aircraft hat dirty if you're wondering what wolf aircraft is that is the place that i get all of my stainless and aluminum from for like tubing header kits all that stuff american made awesome people would definitely recommend if you're going to build a turbo kit out of like and you want high quality stuff time for some wallering we're going to find out if it needs to be wallowed because it maybe it won't actually let me see if i have a step bit in my box i got a lot of things the step bit is not one of them i know some of you guys are sitting there going to be like this way to do that i know okay if you know the rules you're allowed to break them i think i heard that somewhere i don't know that's my rule i just made that up if i didn't hear it somewhere we're just gonna do it anyway i just want to see how that lines up that should be okay i just don't actually make it too big before i commit because i'm worried that the thickness of the pan is thicker than the steps in this bit problem i'm running into is the thickness of the pan is just a little bit thicker than the step depth so it's the right size to bite but it's going to want to run into the next one which is going to take out material material that that fitting needs to seal against so i think we're going to go back to a regular drill bit and do some precise wallering of the last little ridge in here actually i wonder if this will work this just keeps getting uglier and uglier by the minute of like the absolute long way to do everything and it could just stay between the two of us and this camera and you guys would never ever know but i'm not doing that i'm showing all the ugly just for you it does like that kind of that edge is like gone yeah i think we got it i know you're supposed to have one of those t-handle thingies i don't have one you have more patience than i do i'm just running it enough so the threads are like biting the whole way the threads have to be deep enough for it to get a good foothold on it but not go too deep on the tap otherwise the fitting will not have enough taper to dig into couldn't find any pipe tape or like liquid thread sealer so we'll just put some black rtv on there not the right thing to do not the wrong thing either kind of like the medium thing better than nothing but we're just gonna see if this works looks like it's working to me it does i've actually never done this to an oil pan i welded mine on the escalade get it on there basically don't have the right tools for anything i don't know why apparently i'm just doing stuff that's completely different than what they do over there or i just don't know where things are but i can never find exactly what it is i'm looking for and right now i'm too cheap to go buy it so i just use the wrong things more than i should maybe if you sell some dang hoodies i can get some good tools so now the fitting in there is screwed in it's pretty tight it still sticks out like a decent bit but it's pipe thread taper fit and i assure you it's tighter than hail if it does leak or something i can always take it out and tap in further but you can't untap something once you tap it but yeah so i guess that was not funny i thought it was funny anyway now we're going to make the drain line uh we got a 45 coming off of here and i'm thinking it's just going to go right under this charge pipe and then feed into the front there with a straight end use red horse stuff because red horse is the freaking bomb you need a n fittings red horse performance they're awesome and ict billet has stuff too we got this accessory bracket on here it's freaking sweet i don't know exactly what i'm gonna put it on but they want me to try on something so i'm going to turbo oil feed we'll be using is from ict billet and contrary what you may think they're not a chinese company they're based in kansas and i met them at race week this year super cool people and i got a little bit of story on them the i was like what the heck does ict mean and that used to be like the designation for the airport in wichita that's what the guy said i'm like well why is the name that he's like dude i don't know it's just what it is so yeah this isn't just labeled chinese stuff this is american-made cool stuff so when you're making a en line you want to have your start and stop kind of mocked up already just so you can get a good idea of the length of things you're going to need and whatnot and so forth i'm going to start with assembling that end first and run the hose down here and kind of hold it up to see where it needs to be cut before we do the other side i don't think you really need a super detailed explanation of how to assemble the hand line there's plenty of other videos on this to go into detail but i'll just kind of brush on the basics uh you shove this thingy onto the end and you make sure that the line is all the way up against the shoulder where the threads start otherwise it's not going to be fully seated and you're going to want to lube threads up before you tighten it down then you tighten it down to keep it abbreviated oh my is it so hard that's what she said but now do you that's gonna be a reoccurring thing because it's funny okay it is funny people were taking note of your sass in the comments too apparently just beating me down is amusing i'm like putting like all my body weight into it i feel like and it's not moving you don't have to go the whole way around once it gets tight then you can take the wrench and just like you find your best you know source of leverage angle and you just use it that way so if it's you know pushing like that but yeah you're right it is really tight yeah it might have been because the vice was tight we will try it in a wrench instead well it actually was really tight for whatever abnormal reason i don't know so i just finished it otherwise we would have been here for like six days and you may have slipped off and punched the table or something and you know maybe i should let you do that you would have like earned your first lost a knuckle scar it's like a rite of passage it might have been funny oh no take it uh yeah now this is on here we got it tightened just to the point where the two threads match up together we're going to take it back over there screw this end on and find out where we need to cut this like through through here i might be [ __ ] because i don't see your fingers right here oh i could have done that from up here i just wanted to make you do something cool the bumper still says suck it you'll probably still be able to see that once i wash this thing it builds character pretty sure i did say you know it's kind of cold in there you might want to put some like long pants on you're like no fine i was hot at that point now i'm cold again but i'm not gonna [ __ ] about it because i don't need to i did it to myself for the record a woman just said that that's impressive you're self-aware yep not the average woman see i kind of got this mocked up roughly where i want it it's just gonna go boop just like that run up this way it's all downhill so i'm gonna this before i mark it for good i'm gonna come up here make sure everything looks the way i want it to and it does i'll leave a little extra length so it doesn't have to rub i've got this marked with a piece of tape now we're going to pull it back out and cut it with something that is yet to be determined i don't know what i'm going to cut it with she always says this really funny stuff as soon as i shot the camera off repeat what you just said because it was noteworthy it might be kind of cool to use like a chainsaw because you haven't used any of the right tools thus far kind of overkill but it'd be funny just getting monotone roasted like i've been doing to so many people for so many years dang that'll happen you want a chainsaw this is the closest thing we got i like it all right you want to do it no you sure yep this is another horrible idea and we're just going to do it anyway here the bad ideas are always the most fun you know it imagine that it actually worked you worked pretty well beautiful i'm using that more often i tell you why that was if you guys don't like it i don't even have to say it oh i didn't film this part last time so we're gonna show it this time the part where you shove the thingy over the thingy very descriptive yeah you take your thingy take your thingy and you shove it on there is that like the scientific name it is yeah that's what it is much impressed but i wrapped the electrical tape around here on purpose and cut it through the tape to keep the fray from going like and making it impossible to shove this on you can gather up these and kind of bunch them back together to tape them up but you're going to stab your thumbs in the process been there done that it helps if you twist them you can find a socket that fits directly on here and just and use that to get it on so you don't get to beat the crap out of your…
