What happens here

This project details the installation and initial setup of a turbocharger system on a GMC Yukon/Sierra. It covers essential steps such as flushing the engine oil system, installing key turbo components like the crossover pipe and wastegate, connecting charge pipes, and preparing the car for its first start with the new turbo. The process includes humorous interjections and real-world challenges encountered during a DIY car modification.

freaking sick well you finished your task before mine so that's we might be here for a little bit have you tried turning it off and back on again this crossover is made out of the stub from the old y-pipe honestly this motor will probably blow up before this oil change would even need to be changed and we thought fridays were great at triple seven saturdays are even better just kind of yanked on it wilson were you aware that there was that much oil on your face i mean i felt some of it but i really didn't want to know that's what she said well we're back next day we are going to hear this thing make some turbo sounds agenda right now change the oil which we got right there featuring the hoodie that was in the wash yesterday that you should go buy the feed and return line are done but we're going to take the return line from the turbo dump some gasoline down and with the oil drain off and blow some some compressed air through there just to get out whatever random metal chips might still be in there there's gonna be a few stragglers but it's not really a big deal everything goes to the filter before it goes anywhere else and this motor is going to die a horrible death at some point anyway so nothing fancy going on here just pulling the old drain plug and draining some oil use your imagination i'm not going to put a time lapse in here just to appease four people pretty much what we're gonna do is just uh dump some of this old e85 right down the turbo drain through a little funnel here and hopefully it'll it'll get all that stuff we got the drain pan right down there so it's just going to run right through which is fine but we poured some of that into that old coolant container because i'm not about to try to finagle a five gallon bucket into that tiny funnel into that tiny hose i don't know how well this will work but i got to do something with that old ethanol anyway because it's too old to use i filled that up on race week so that's how old that is i left the drain off so i'll pour it this way if it doesn't dribble on you it's finding new ways to make stupid messes i don't know if that did anything but it's a thought that counts right just uh empty the drain pan and gonna do it again because why not i have more more of that through there and then blow some compressed air down it just to kind of like evaporate it a little bit before we put the new oil in i'm not gonna change the filter uh i think we'll start it first with the oil filter because then any crud that doesn't get picked up we'll go to the old filter and not the new one it makes sense in my head so we'll try it if it spins a bearing right after this then obviously did something didn't work but i think we'll be okay oh we dumped the second round through there and looks like about 40 of it made it to the pan um cool now it's time for air [Music] you want to see some weight reduction check this out [Music] this is like some smokey eunuch right here we're going to cut like 400 pounds off this thing by blowing rust off the frame maybe i should have drove the escalade in a few more winters i could have like blown it off and it would weigh 5 000 pounds instead of six dang this is literally the cheapest oil that i found at the store you can tell did not go to walmart because if we did we'd be pouring walmart special in here right now honestly this motor will probably blow up before this oil change would even need to be changed but maybe you won't then again maybe she will air quote drake huh i'm hilarious yeah you are right now i'm just throwing the crossover back in with this new gasket i had to go like 18 different places to find one but yeah the driver's side manifold actually has never been unbolted from this motor it probably never will i don't have a reason to take it off so yeah we're just throwing it on here right with this and this crossover is made out of the stub from the old y-pipe i have a whole video designated to making this crossover on the uncle rob yukon xl playlist on my channel all of my cars vehicles video types have their own playlists so if you like a specific type of content go to my playlist on my page and you will be able to find that stuff categorized easily so but yeah if you want to see how this thing goes in go watch that video don't need to film it a bunch of times for those of you diehards who have seen me do this 69 times already so the crossover's bolted up now gotta take this bad ass tile mvr wastegate take it apart and put the little kid spring in there so we don't max out the fuel system and melt something before we have any fun because we're gonna dyno this thing on the stock fuel system and see how far it'll go tanner says it should do you know three pounds or so that's equivalent to you know putting like a cam in one of these things or something like that it should be okay with a couple pounds maybe we'll find out but according to the chart this guy right here is the weakest tiniest psi spring we can put in there and it is a whopping 4.3 psi spring seems like a lot this is what the inside of a tile diaphragm looks like oh so you choose which one you want to put on it yeah each one of these has a different um like compression rating this is another one of those good question moments and you can they're different diameters so you can like stack them together to have more or less but we want the tiniest one because the fuel pump and injectors in that thing are not big enough to match the amount of fuel to the amount of air that this will produce at a higher boost level so it can only handle like three pounds or something otherwise you get more air than fuel in the motor then it melts sounds cool in due time so i'm putting the wastegate on now i don't have any of the plumbing hooked up because we're going to figure that out later right now we're just putting it on and we'll get on with like the the nitty-gritty stuff later on but a lot of these wastegates good ones anyways have these uh like locator rings they're separate so it kind of seats into here and it also when it's bolted will bolt up to there it kind of is almost like a extra layer of ceiling i don't know it sounds stupid it's cool okay it does something otherwise they wouldn't put it there remember in the last video where i was like i'm just gonna send it not check the fit because i know it's gonna work i was right but i think i'm gonna kick it something like that i don't know if people blow right at the ground but they're saying yeah we'll blow right at the ground eventually i'll turn it to point this way to make a tube that runs into the exhaust we don't have that yet either so we are fully adjustable and i forgot an itty bitty wrench for that nut cool we'll have to grab one of those i'm just gonna take it off and take it up there with me so i don't have to bring wrenches under here that's the smart way to do it it's at eight millimeter you don't want to tighten the crap out of these because when they get hot and expand to contract a bunch of times they'll gall up and break i've had that happen to me on the escalade before but now that's on here on here with the rinky dink 0.2 bar spring which i don't know what that translates to to boost but it's 0.2 bar worth a boost yep we're done under here now we can put the thing back on the ground and put all the charge pipes in i just put these hoodies on the website it's not like the regular thick cotton ones they don't fade and they fit better there you go boom stay with autoworks.com get it on the list because it's not going to be live for very long now we're back on the ground gotta bolt the turbo down with the gasket uh hook up all the charge pipes oil line i'm ready to fire it up do you want to put that pipe on since you know how to now yeah well i bolt down the turbo which hoping the bolts i got for the turbo are the right length and stuff kind of didn't check that yet but we'll make it work what are you doing why won't this thing get on there what why won't this get on i don't know it worked the other day what that's annoying why because it popped right on for you better yeah [Music] so what the hell this one's like bigger it all happened sometimes but the 12 is too big for it and the 10 was too small oh 7 16. does this matter like what direction it is if you ain't no it really doesn't matter you just kind of put it where it looks nice well where do you want it it's your car well you're gonna hate me but if i were gonna put this together i would put it like down here but it really doesn't matter because you're gonna yeah you could just do it like this and then tighten it from the bottom because then when you look at it you don't have a bolt sticking up in your face yeah that was my thought that's not going anywhere are you having fun with the clamps they're pissing me off so i'm getting the turbo bolted up i had to tighten down the feed and the drain put some rtv in there i still have to officially tighten down the feed with some thread sealer that's not done yet but well i'm doing that she's been getting this pipe on having some fun mixing and matching clamps because all my clamps are hodge podge and of questionable source is that like too close to the edge of this no that's fine is this gonna [ __ ] anything up there's really no good place no i think it'll be okay [Music] does the socket bottom out on there yeah it won't let me tighten it more without shifting this whole clamp is bottomed out that's why try this one if you i think it's a 5 16 well this still works it does that's me i'm usually the one to sit there and slip the screwdriver off the thing 95 times before i just go get the socket because when i get the socket on those i always over tighten them and then rip the little legs out of the strap the screwdriver kind of keeps you from over tightening it does anybody else do that like not use the socket on purpose so you don't over tighten the worm gear leave a comment let me know because i hope i'm not alone is it good i think it'll be good for a couple pounds well you finished your task before mine so yeah let's see if you can figure out how to put that headlight back in you asked me to take it out i think this is in the way hello it's not because of this handy-dandy melt spot right here yeah i get that but like doesn't it like clip in right there yeah you're just gonna have to push it really hard or you didn't push this in far enough don't know i think that'll work did you get more room when you push that in yeah oh sweet i don't think i can push it anymore yeah i know it's it's kind of close you have to like put the pin in and then like push on it while you put the other one in just freaking running it down and i don't have any standard ratchet wrenches so i'm gonna have to go borrow another 14 or 9 16 from uh one of their toolboxes that's really simple it has another hole in the bottom you gotta make sure it's see it's still sticking out there a little bit i forget when i did it honestly i know it requires some finagling yeah cause it doesn't want to fit because that i know you don't want me to do it no i don't well it does require finagling and looks like that's what you're doing right now so if you continue that effort i think you'll get it i just break the plastic off the bottom have you tried turning it off and back on again that'll work did you get it on there no because i want to break it do you want me to do it give it a try okay there's no human leeway possible that it's gonna fit see like [Applause] god damn it i got it that far i thought it was supposed to go further in it is this isn't done but you saw i put my hand in there and i just pushed that [Music] hey you know you gave it a good finagling you just had to finagle a little harder apparently i mean i've done this time or two so like i don't count but you know your hand is so dirty and you should you know who am i trying to impress here not me oh turbo's bolted down all the oil lines are hooked up um seem to have lost one clamp somewhere don't have one for this and we need to get a vacuum line for the blowoff valve or to go from one of these ports like this one here to the blower valve which is not on there i'm gonna leave it off for now because we're going to start this thing up and you know see this turbo spin make some oil kind of just want to make sure it's not going to leak or does anything stupid and we'll hear some turbo whistle which would be cool like there's some blow-off valve noises but we don't have that hose right now so this by no means is like ready to go uh she looks ready to go but this thing is not ready to go we're gonna have to uh do some more more stuff on this before it's dyno ready like you know fans that extra clamp blow off valve the wastegate plumbing to something for manifold reference just random odds and ends like that but we are going to hear this thing run right now take this electrical tape off i don't know if we're down to there oh okay you know i was just trying to be helpful look at them rock lights truck yonder truck yonder okay freaking sick pull up with the truck meat like that panties will be flying at you for sure what crusty one big ones like ones that came from the kite factory let's see that's funny i laugh all the old flat-toeing stuff for the motorhome is still in there that my dad put in there like 15 years ago my uncle never touched it where are the odds as things dead that'd be kind of funny is dead unless i was smart enough to disconnect the battery no i wasn't cool i have a jump pack though you know like wouldn't it be cool if we had like a battery charger or something touchy subject see last video let's see if this works what the heck you're supposed to do something these terminals are really crusty see if this works now it's making some noises that bodes well for nothing [Music] now we need a battery charger but it melted what's so funny what else is new it must be like two dead for the jump pack we're just gonna steal a battery out of ashton's truck to fire this thing up real quick and charge mine through some other way oh there you go hopefully this will be enough to shove over the bigger the bigger titty on the intake maybe you need some oil or just spit in it spit in it let me just take this whole thing oil usually it will stay there but your spit will dry up and it you know what i mean yeah longer slippery at that point so this vacuum line kind of has a weird size difference the the titty on the intake is a little thicker than the titty on the blow-off valve so we're just going to warm this up a little bit and put some lube on there and shove her home shawna betty and the misfire motorsports crew are here today putting some stuff on the dyno it's ready for the first start first start gmc you only thought fridays were great at triple seven saturdays are even better yeah well they came over about four seconds row as i had to put the belt back on and they left oh john's back but we've got the blow-off valve on hooked this up to the thingies it's just fine for now actually i should probably tighten this knot dang it it's a little monster in your tool box yeah well i think we're ready to go you see anything else these obviously you don't have a clamp on there because i couldn't find one but it's not going to make boost to sitting here rattling anyway i just want to hear it go shoo too at least do that it's ready [Music] what [Music] you really do you just you do get that warm fuzzy feeling i feel warm and fuzzy right now oh man that's a win now we can actually get to like the little nickel and dime stuff to get this thing on the dyno so uncle rob is alive finally making turbo sounds but we're not done yet he still probably needs a couple days more worth of work before it's dyno ready you know stuff like uh the fans the wastegate plumbing um you know just random stuff i got to relocate the coolant reservoir make some new lines so they're not near the turbo just you know little random things like that o2 sensor all the little nickel and dime stuff to top it off we'll be doing a video about that too but the most important thing is is uncle rob is almost ready to rip light at the end of the tunnel feels freaking awesome uh i gotta get to editing this video and you know ruger here's gonna keep me company hopefully he doesn't barf in any of the shirts don't know why he's been doing that a lot or not barfing on the shirts but just like barfing randomly in general if you barf on the shirts you know he's not gonna do that you're not gonna do that are you no he's not gonna do that hoodies are still live on the website they're going to be live for a couple more days before i shut that page off and place the order so staple in auto works check that out get yourself one we got og escalade transmission destroyer main saw flag shirt and freaking randoms you can order a random one in your size and save some money so we'll see you soon also yellow belly is opening back up soon so i cannot wait to get back there
