What happens here

This project details the process of installing a blow-off valve (BOV) onto a vehicle's turbo system. It covers assessing optimal placement, modifying the BOV flange for proper fitment onto the crossover pipe using a die grinder and deburring tools, cutting a precise hole in the pipe, welding the flange, and then installing the complete assembly. The video also touches on correcting errors during the modification process, highlighting practical aspects of custom fabrication.

why is that so hard that's what she said but not to you you kind of wiggle it from side to side i always weld the same way the whole way around a piece of pipe like i won't well part of it this way and part of it that way can i clip this on without doing that we just got some parts in for uncle rob here tanner wants to see because he uh you don't know what a fluid damper is and we're about to show them now they have like a really big oem manufacturing facility and this is like their performance line uh that was something i was not aware of is that fluid effort does a lot of factory manufacturing why is there an empty bag in here empty bag oh freaking sweet hats made in usa their facility is in new york near buffalo just pull on something until it tears or pops totally don't have that box open but it works i'm pretty sure it was this is a unit right here dang dude this is nice yeah it is it smells like metal explain to me why stock balancers the elastic in them is tuned for the harmonic range of what the stock motor does where these these ones and other ones like you know ati or whatever are more specific so they can adapt to different ranges so once you take a stock motor out of its designated harmonic range that balancer is no longer effective and this is where they step in yeah that's where you need one of these and uncle rob's gonna be making a lot more horsepower than the stock so this is definitely going to help i like companies that are super into what they do not just oh yeah this place whatever this is what we have but when i talked to this guy he was just like it's going out with this all this information they live what they do sick well we're back working on uncle rob you might have been wondering what's going on what's been going on is i've been going to yellow belly a lot and filming a lot of stuff there which requires a lot of editing because those videos like 45 minutes long it takes pretty much an entire day to edit those anyway you may have noticed some you know quickie lights set up over there we did that yesterday this is logan she uh helped me clean the floor which was cool you may have seen her wander around the background of my blueprint tour videos promise you she's not pissed off it's just my face i guess she would leave if she didn't want to be here even though it is really cold here and i could tell that you're not super comfortable with the super cold but it is what it is we hung the lights cleaned the floor moved the bench over there it's just paracord and the because the corner here was like really dim because when we put the lights in i didn't want them to be too close to the edge because then all the light would bleed over to the side of the building that's not ours so i said we'll push it this way and i'll light this corner up with something else which for right now is those i don't know how long it's gonna stay like that maybe forever i don't know i don't hate it the plan of attack right now is to put the blow off valve on here's what we're working with about right here sort of i want it to be visible because it looks cool but i don't want it to be in the way of the hood or look stupid where it goes i'm kind of thinking right here would flow nicely then the line that comes off of it can point down and it's just less clutter above the engine except this thing is kind of annoying oh boom clearance fine right there as you can see the radius of that doesn't really fit here so i'm gonna have to carve this down a bit to make it fit now i don't have to film myself doing stuff with the tripod because she can do it so there you go okay what do i do uh make sure that thing is pointed at me it is all right cool that's all you got to do pretty much i'm going to take the flange part off of the blow-off valve because once we get the little air grinder out i don't want to accidentally nick this up so we're going to take this off and great it's the one i'm missing isn't that always the case that's the next thing on my priority list is get my own tools over here this is all i have this is pretty much what i built the escalade with i have another toolbox back in pennsylvania that had more stuff in it like bigger sockets and pliers and all that stuff but as far as sockets and stuff go this is all i got what goes wrong with me everywhere everything it was 60 on sale at home depot five years ago you don't need fancy tools to do stuff but it helps after doing like 95 zigzags around the building i found the right allen for it sometimes i wish healies were still a thing because i could get around a lot quicker in here with those some of you guys might be too young to even know what those are if you know what helis are if you had healeys tell me about your healies in the comments got this apart it's got this little o-ring in here don't want to lose that so we're going to put it somewhere questionably safe to where it may or may not be lost like the box that it came from obviously there's a gap here so to get this out i am just going to work down these parts from in here oh yeah this is what i use for this stuff it's just like a carbide rasp bit similar to what would use like port a cylinder head or something so it throws aluminum pretty good this is john's ctsv of john lawson the owner of triple seven this car made 1.3 bazillion horsepower about two hours ago so stay tuned for that okay nothing it's like wow this guy's an idiot well if i wanted to call you an idiot i would just do that all right well for being an idiot you can call me new yet cool i've earned it i'm probably going to hit my finger it happens sometimes let's see how much better it fits now you really should do this in a vise but there's not one over here i've said this before but don't try this at home unless it works and when you're carving it you do it at a point to like radius with it that helps it seat better if you just did it like this then you would not um it would take you longer the aluminum has a tendency to gall up inside here it just does it doesn't if you lubricate this better but you know it'll be fine ready for the grand test here wow look at that wow it's still a gap a little bit but with aluminum it's really not a big deal pretty cool looks good to me yeah the this laptop is mining bitcoin or dogecoin or freaking these nuts i don't know tanner does some goofy stuff but yeah see fits pretty dang good now on both sides the gap is a good bit smaller you could fill a heck of a lot more gap on aluminum than this all day honestly you could probably have welded it the way it was and it wouldn't have mattered but if you make the fit up better it's easier to weld if it's easier to weld then you look like a better welder when you're done there's a difference between welders and fabricators a doctor is not a surgeon but a surgeon could be a doctor where a fabricator is a welder but well there's not always a fabricator that's my analogy i'm sticking to it got this d bird tool here but like a potato peeler it works better on like the inside of things like this that's cool it doesn't work so right on steel but one of these things will change your life on aluminum now that the fitment is good i am going to trace the outside and the inside so i know where the outside is and when i trace the inside then i'll know how big to cut the hole what do you think should the blowoff valve be perfectly horizontal or stick up a little bit i would say horizontal well that's my thought i'm trying to put it somewhere that it's aesthetically pleasing because you know i'm kind of looking at where the alternator is where this stuff is where it is on the pipe if you put it here it's going to look weird because it's right at the bend put it here it doesn't look that good because there's a big empty void right here so i'm kind of going to like you know look at all this like it's an art project or something everything has a place of purpose and a reason you don't just throw things together just because you can you could do that but why would you do that when you can put some thought into it and have it be that much cooler because if you put a little bit of effort into everything like you know as far as mental planning goes where stuff goes then at the end you have something really cool looking they all just moves based on like where this is and how it's clamped on so for the blowoff l to be perfectly like a 90 degree angle with this core support which is what i want it's probably going to be impossible because wherever i put this this is going to end up being different i really don't like silicone couplers but this is a daily like do it at your home kind of build if i was going all out ham sandwich on this thing i put solid motor mounts in it and do v-bands everywhere and not use boosted boy kyle's old intake manifold and not use boosted boy kyle's old intercooler which may or may not have all kinds of oil and crud in it from blown up like nissan engines so and we had to we had to melt this to make this pipe fit oh yeah get this off here don't try it unless it works yeah don't try this at home unless it works then we need to go yeah it happens all the time yeah you know what you know why i've been procrastinating working on this thing because of stupid crap like this i don't like silicone couplers i like v-bands because they fit perfectly after you're done with them it's either it fits or it doesn't if it doesn't fit you didn't put it together right not this rubber nonsense nice pipe just in case i forgot scavenger hunt update do not have the right size hole saw just gonna wait tomorrow go to the store and get the right stuff i'm sure you're super disappointed about leaving this nice climate controlled garage yeah it feels great she may or may not be back tomorrow who knows i'll be back the next day i went to the store got the right size hole saw for the charge pipe and the little chuck thingy so i don't have to use theirs all the time got some bolts for the turbo to the manifold i bolt that down and it went to suck i mean summit racing and got a uh a downpipe flange oops you ready to make some holes let's do it socket cole if you're wondering where cole is uh he has a job now so he's pretty busy we still talk we're still friends he's built like a tube chassis chevy love truck for autocross or something you know you don't have to be up your friend's butts all the time still be friends more of the story but we just kind of like you know put it on here either from the top because i've noticed with these hole saws it might say for example this one's one and three quarter that's how big it is but they always kind of walk a little bit and the hole ends up being a little bit bigger than that so always err on the small side of the hole you're trying to make before you whip out the oil hold those are here and you definitely want to find some lube otherwise it'll gall up and kill these teeth really quickly and you'll just be really really annoyed okay next step charge the battery and then we will go clean up this hole got the hole cut now we're gonna see how well this fits on here i'd say that's good enough to run it's pretty dang flush see what i was talking about if the hole is actually bigger than the hole saw look at that this whole saw is considerably smaller than the inside of this flange but when you hold it up to here it's almost flush the more you know now the deeper this thing with this this is where it's better is in this kind of spot you can get it out of the inside too that way just kind of roll it around my thing is every time i do this i want to be able to run my finger through and around the entire thing on both sides and not catch any edges that's how i know it's a perfect perfect cut does it need to be that way no but it's important to me fire up the old froneys magic wave and tack it up with the old fernius magic wave 230 that's the tick machine i use it's freaking awesome it just tears it up on aluminum now i don't have anything taped down it's just kind of precariously perched so i'm going to do my best to not mess it up and i'm also going to tack the bottom side because when i run over the tack it's inherently going to make like a little bit of a denser blob than the rest of it so i attack out of sight as if it really matters on a you know crusty 2003 yukon but like it's it's the thought that counts [Music] i'm gonna get it in two spots just so it doesn't accidentally bend off uh dang it did i really do that i did do that man i forgot when i was trimming this i had a rogue uh carbide big over and it messed that up and i put that on the top where everyone can see it so that's not cool but i'm probably gonna powder coat or paint these pipes anyway like wrinkle black or something really boring and inconspicuous to mess the rest of it so we're just gonna pretend that's not there it'll be our secret ask that question again because it's useful for people who may be watching this so why don't you like weld it all the way around because if it's in the wrong spot then i can easily move it before i weld the whole thing and then it has in the wrong place and i'm like damn it i can't move it because it's all the way welded if we need to move it here we can just grind those little tacks off break it and adjust it that way so it's like a it's like a test fit makes sense yeah see did you just learn something trying to gauge the average knowledge level of people watching this just if if you learn something there or at any point during this uh let me know in the comments what that was i want to know what you're learning and how you learned it and how you would like to learn things so i can explain more or explain less pretty much i keep asking questions they are good for uh good for people watching this because i may not explain something because i don't think that you know like i already know this so it doesn't occur to me to explain it you know well now we gotta shove this back in here and put it on so do you think you can put it on you remember how i took it out like this keep pushing it up into here you gotta go down farther blonde problems i guess probably is that right yeah yeah we just got to put the boots on this big one goes up there i'll get the one for down here we're like can you just like pretend that's good well you could pretend it's good but if it's in the wrong place then we're screwed so i'll like actually put it on mock-up pending it is on does it fit cool well we haven't mocked this up yet so i'm just going to hold it up there instead of bolting the dune and all that stuff we're just going to use your imagination that's how it's gonna go doesn't look crooked stupid anything i think it looks fine that doesn't sound that confident but i think we're just gonna run it anyway it's beautiful well i'm reassured let's hammer it down rewind it was a stupid question no wasn't what was the question no she just said don't we have to like take this out now yes we have to like take it out now why is that so hard that's what she said but not to you i don't wanna break anything you're not gonna break it you kind of wiggle it from side to side you got it now we get to make the trek back over here to weld it i need to put in a 220 plug over there there's any electricians in the dfw area that would like want to help me wire some stuff let me know let's get this thing welded up do you know to like not look at it yeah i'm not okay i wasn't sure [Music] i'm gonna move this brake cleaner what was that just gonna move this over here are you paranoid now yeah we don't need a repeat i don't want to be you know caught in the crossfire i always weld the same way the whole way around a piece of pipe like i won't well part of it this way and part of it that way i'll break my back to go the same way the whole way around just because i think that's that's the right way to do it are you gonna do like the mullet flip like that guy from blueprint what i'm like like that yeah i just did it there you go oh he's gonna oh there it is next thing on the list is bolt the manifold down with the gasket in it for the final time you know we're getting really close to be able to run this thing we just got to get the wastegate put on finish while the v-band on the crossover once you verify fitment that's why i want to final bolt this down fuel system's on the way i should have that next week as long as oklahoma doesn't get freaking buried in snow because it's coming from ditch works but we got ourselves like a brand new gas gear right over here so we're just gonna use that i would just like to point out that i'm not forcing her to do this are you being held against your will no are you having fun yeah i'm learning now you understand the awesomeness of a ratchet wrench it's cool well now the manifold is all bolted down hiding behind me i actually got them pretty tight i just had to make sure they were like tight tight it's kind of hard to get a lot of leverage on with a ratchet wrench but it's on there now and we got to go find a jack and some jack stands to pick it up put the crossover back under there to place the wastegate you know what a wastegate is not a clue what are you gonna find out you're gonna learn today so i was just explaining how wastegate worked i wish the camera was rolling but i said the wastegate bleeds off exhaust pressure before it gets to the turbo to make less boost at what what did you say why would you want to slow it down that's a great question we don't but sometimes you have to that engine would be all over the floor in about three seconds that's why we need this unfortunately why have i not done anything that did the why have i not done anything with this yet well that's not done yet escalade doesn't have heads yet monte carlo blowed up is blowed up i'll let you in on a little secret i've been leaving everybody hanging on this as to what i'm going to do with this i'm not going to tell you what i'm doing it but i'm going to tell you what i'm not going to do with it it's not going in the monte carlo i know some of you are probably going to be pretty sad over that 6 32 is for a vehicle that's not here don't have it yet not going to go get it until uncle rob is done i did not finish well the flange because i wanted to make sure it was all good in the right spot before i did that so we're pretty much going to do the same thing that we did to the charge pipe to this thing but for the wastegate instead even though you're not a fan of wastegates apparently you don't understand why you'd want to slow a turbo it is lame don't remind me did you just roll back and slam into the running board all right well that is nice and crusty under here you ever been under a car before no well this is not a good example of what they typically look like with the crossover bolted in everything fits up good the way it was supposed to got that tightened up there i know they're really close to the training lines consider this this transmission is going to melt almost instantly so i'm really not worried about that hopefully this fits around a 480 it should have made it have extra room down here you know in this bend here it's going to have a good priority i don't want to stick it straight down because then it's like the lowest point on the frame and that's not good actually i'm just gonna consult a couple of my friends who have crossover set up this way and see what they did as far as their angle goes because it's working for them mostly dylan uh digging z71 with the regular cab truck you might have seen him on my channel a few months ago so i'm working on the little wastegate tube now to connect the wastegate through the crossover just kind of got it chewed up with the sawzall a little bit and started to radius it with the you know just the bench grinder see how it fits up now just eyeballing it dude fits pretty good good enough i mean this this is mild steel and this is a stainless so if this…
