To prepare for upright carpet cleaning, first fill the clean water reservoir. Press the button on the top of the reservoir to lift it off the machine. Fill one side of the reservoir with hot water directly from the tap (avoid boiling water). The other side is the solution reservoir, which should be filled with carpet cleaner. A 6-ounce bottle of Hoover carpet cleaner is typically included. On the front of the clean water reservoir, there's a knob to switch between "rinse" and "wash" cycles; ensure it's set to "wash" initially.
