In some cases, you may need to install risers before installing your new treads. If this is the case, use construction adhesive and finish nails to secure them. After this, install the treads by applying construction adhesive on the top and front of the nosing of the sub-treads of the stairs. Then, use 1 1/2-inch finish nails with a finish nailer to attach the replacement treads securely. Repeat this step for each of your treads, working your way up the staircase.
