Apply painter's tape to the perimeter of the treads, along the stringers and risers, to protect them from stain and polyurethane. Apply your chosen wood stain to the oak plywood treads and bullnose using a cloth or brush. The video creator initially used 'Early American' but found it too brown, so a second coat of a 'beige' tone was applied to achieve a greyish shade that matched the existing flooring. Continue applying coats of stain until the desired color is achieved. Once the stain is dry, apply a single coat of Minwax One Coat Polyurethane to the stained treads and bullnose using a natural bristle brush. Ensure even coverage and smooth out any brush marks with light strokes.
