Install New Treads
Part of project
Stair Treads · Step 5 of 6
In this video
Apply a generous bead of construction adhesive along the top edge of the riser and along any stringer supports that the tread will rest on. This adhesive will act as a lubricant, aiding in the installation of the tread into the dado, and will also help secure the tread, preventing future squeaks. Carefully slide the new tread with its rabbit cut into the dado of the riser. Once the tread is properly seated, use a nail gun with 2.5-inch 8-penny finish nails to secure the tread in place. Repeat this process for all remaining treads and risers.
