Remove Carpet & Prepare Subtreads — Prepare Stair Structure
Part of project
Stair Treads · Step 2 of 6
In this video
The project begins by showing existing carpeted stairs, which are then stripped of their old carpet, revealing the wooden subtreads and risers underneath. To enhance stability and prevent future squeaks, 2-inch deck screws are driven into the subtreads using a Milwaukee cordless drill. Subsequently, the installer carefully checks for any exposed staples or nails left over from the carpet installation, removing them with a hammer or pry tool, or hammering them flush with the wood surface. This ensures a perfectly smooth and clean base, essential for the proper installation of the new treads and risers.
