Once the treads are securely fastened, fill all countersunk screw holes or nail divots. Use a wood filler that matches the oak color, or use pre-made wooden plugs that can be glued in for a more robust and natural look. Apply the filler with a putty knife, ensuring it's slightly proud of the surface. Allow it to dry completely according to the manufacturer's instructions.
