Step 6 · Secure the New Treads

Place the adhesive-coated treads back onto the stair structure. Press down firmly to ensure good contact with the adhesive. Secure each tread by driving screws or nails through the tread into the stringers and possibly the riser. Pre-drilling pilot holes can prevent the wood from splitting, especially near the ends of the treads. If using screws, countersink them slightly below the surface so they can be concealed later. Ensure fasteners are long enough to securely engage the underlying structure.
