Step 3 · Measure and Cut New Treads

Measure the width, depth (from riser to nosing), and thickness of each stair opening. Pay close attention to the nosing, which is the rounded edge that overhangs the riser. Transfer these measurements to your new oak tread material. Use a measuring tape and a pencil for accuracy. Carefully cut the treads using a circular saw or a miter saw. For precise fits, especially around volutes or curved stringers, a jigsaw might be necessary. Ensure cuts are straight and square where needed.
