Step 2 · Amend the Soil

Test the soil in the planting area. If it is compacted, heavy clay, or lacks nutrients, amend it. Spread a layer of 2-4 inches of organic matter, such as compost, well-rotted manure, or peat moss, over the cleared area. This will improve soil structure, drainage, and fertility, creating a more hospitable environment for the ground cover to thrive.
