Step 6 · Install Deck Joists

Mark the joist layout on the beams according to the plan (typically 16 inches on center). Attach joists to the beams using joist hangers or by toenailing/screwing. Ensure joists are crowned upwards (slight upward bow) to counteract deflection. Install blocking or bracing between joists as required by code to prevent twisting and add rigidity.
