What happens here
Luke introduces synthetic underlayment (Owens Corning ProArmor), a high-performance alternative to traditional tar paper. This woven fiberglass material is super strong, tear-resistant, and slip-resistant, offering a safer working surface for roofers. Unlike tar paper, synthetic underlayment allows moisture and air to escape from the attic (venting), while simultaneously resisting water penetration from above. This dual functionality helps prevent condensation buildup within the attic and provides an additional layer of protection beneath the shingles. It is layered over the drip edge on the eaves and under the drip edge on the rake edges to ensure proper water flow.
Goal: Provide a robust, breathable, and water-resistant layer over the roof deck.
