After the underlayment and other foundational layers are in place, the architectural shingles are installed. Luke highlights the Owens Corning Duration shingles, a type of architectural shingle known for its durability and advanced features. A key feature is the 'SureNail' woven fiberglass strip, which provides a clear and robust nailing zone. This strip ensures that nails are driven correctly, preventing 'blow-throughs' and enhancing the shingle's resistance to wind uplift. The SureNail strip also incorporates a very aggressive adhesive that strongly bonds the shingles together once heated by the sun, offering superior wind resistance compared to older, cheaper shingles. This robust construction helps the shingles withstand severe weather conditions.
