What happens here

This extensive DIY project details the use of heavy machinery to transform a sloped backyard, focusing on improving water drainage, completing a dry creek bed, creating access ramps, filling large washouts, and ultimately preparing an area for a new patio. The project involves significant earthmoving, grading, and material handling to prevent water intrusion into the home and enhance the property's functionality and aesthetics.

all right you guys first off thanks for coming back today we've got to tackle the rest of this project we're gonna be wrapping up the dry creek bed but then we're gonna be building that ramp so we can gain access to the upper terrace of this retaining wall and fixing the grate so that we don't have any more water flooding into the house we're also going to be tackling that big washout wrapping that up and then starting on this pond removing that and getting that prep to turn into a patio so let's just dive right into this very first part and wrap up this dry creek [Music] last time we left off we had the majority of the dry creek bed done but they want to add some of these smaller River stones just to make it look more realistic trailers not going down so go up can you figure out what's going on with it that looks like it's supposed to be hooked up to something they've got to gain access to that upper terrace of the retaining wall to finish the dry creek bed and also to correct the grades from all of the years of washout so we have two options we could pull the wall apart and then build the bridge or we could bridge over the wall about five plus inches of soil has been deposited between these two terraces over the years and what this is doing is pushing all of the water towards the house so this has to all get taken down but before it gets hauled out it's going to be used to build a ramp they build the ramp with the Bobcat mini excavator because it can actually turn and steer the cat skid steer is just so big that once it gets back there it's really not maneuverable so they want to build it wider and safer taking that into account [Music] they back up the ramp because it's just a bit steep and you'll get better traction going backwards and if that cat skid loader did happen to go for a ride the drop off on the neighbor side is quite a bit [Music] they use the ramp to be able to complete dry creek bed from the upper side it may seem slow at first but using the mini X is still our fastest option to move this rock and whatever gets spilled or misplaced gets picked up by hand and of course it's always a smart move to put the guy with the sloppiest pins on the machine into the tightest job sites possible why would you thankfully it was the wall and not the opposite you got this big old deck here we need a regrade under here they have to raise the grade below the house to convince the water to go somewhere else as soon as they're done with this they're going to tackle the big washout on the wall let's go take a look at that next thing we're gonna be doing is we're gonna be filling in this big washout well you can see we got a big old hole here it's about three feet from the top of our wall right here to the bottom it's coming this way to stabilize this area and keep the soil from washing through the face of the boulder Sam lays out some new fabric now Blaine's got a backfill it but he's doing it blind from his vantage point he can't see anything behind that wall so Sam has to be his eyes to speed up the backfilling they decide to try and use the catskill daughter [Music] they can't dump the dirt on top of the fabric and risk having that top edge pull back over so they've got to get this right now we were hoping that the skiddy was going to be able to reach over that wall so that we have to keep taking those scoops with the mini axe but [Applause] [Music] so they go for Plan B which is to strategically place the backfill material so the mini excavator can easily grab it and throw it up in place [Music] all this material has to be removed whether it gets used behind the retaining wall for backfill or not it's all been washed down the hill and deposited here over the years so this excess must be removed [Music] [Applause] just like the first wash out they bucket pack as much as they possibly can but when they can't then they rely on hand tamping more Phil is washed on the hill then they can use his back Phil so that gets loaded up and hauled away with a very narrow entry and exit point they can't afford to have any of the dirts spill out of the bucket so they have to take smaller bucket falls just to make sure that that path doesn't get contaminated [Music] if the soil spilt there it could go directly down into the neighbor's house and yard part of our project is to remove the front pond to ferment to a patio so all of the boulders and stones have to go still remember we cannot forget flour in your ear [Music] in forward listen to my heart listen and she [Music] this is the right idea but definitely the wrong tools they grab a ratchet strap instead of just a regular ol strap to try to remove this bush they just can't reach it otherwise and what happens is by using the actual ratchet strap part of it the gearing inside of there is compromised and therefore you can't use it to strap down equipment anymore you basically after you jerk and pull on it like this you gotta throw it away this particular ratchet strap is called a quick loader and the spring inside of it actually pops yeah it was kind of I was kind of worried about that with these things so Blaine ops for Plan B which is to carefully crawl the excavator up as tight to the house as he safely can and hopefully be able to reach the bushes and shrubs that pluck them up what's the bushes and shrubs are gone the boys can Center their attention on locating all of the plant on pond plumbing and filtration that needs to be removed next they're gonna build a patio in this exact spot so nothing can get left behind they've got to carefully sort through all of the material to make sure that they get everything out [Music] they're just wrapping up for the day so we got the pond is gone and all the pumps all that stuff is out of there so the next step in the morning we're just gonna key or just gonna keep getting rid of all this junk in the back is done so I got this all created out and washed out it's filled in so tomorrow we're gonna take the ramp out it's probably gonna be the first thing we do get it on the dump truck I'm gonna start mucking out all those rocks and nasty stuff up where the pond used to be we've got all of the excess soil removed from this area it used to shed water directly toward the house and now everything directs the water down and away from the property so this is all good to go great wise little dry riverbed is good to go to put in a little border and separate the dirt from our rocks [Applause] and then if you guys remember this was the problem spot right up here right back here this was our 3 foot deep washout right back here but we had three days of rain and all the water went where it was exposed to another nice little test all right you guys thanks for coming back on the next part of this video I don't know what's gonna happen because we haven't been able to get back out to the site we've been rained out for the last seven days straight but while we've been rained out there we started another project a massive concrete swimming pool that we have to remove this one is actually really really cool so make sure you guys check that thing out because that one's hopefully coming down the pipeline and when we finally can get back on to this site we're gonna wrap this one up and show you everything we did so hit that subscribe button hit the bell notification and as soon as I upload those videos you'll be able to see them the bail notification is up in one of the corners and that's all we got for you in this one god bless go get them you guys and hopefully we'll see you on another one
