Repair Your Drywall in 3 EASY STEPS! Prepping Walls to Paint

What happens here

Once the hole is scraped flat, use a putty knife or a multi-tool (like the 2 Edge knife) that is wider than the hole. Scoop a small amount of spackle onto the edge of the tool. Press the spackle firmly into the hole, working from different angles to ensure it completely fills the void. Then, with the tool held at a slight angle, scrape off any excess spackle around the patched area, leaving a smooth, flat surface. The goal is to remove as much excess as possible, making it flush with the surrounding wall. For very smooth walls, wiping off any excess spackle with your hand can further prevent ridges. For textured walls (like orange peel), it's crucial to wipe off excess around the texture to avoid a flat patch in a textured area.

Goal: Apply spackle to small, scraped-down holes using a putty knife or multi-tool, ensuring the compound is pressed firmly into the hole and excess is scraped off for a smooth finish.
