HOW TO PAINT CABINETS. Our entire cabinet painting process exposed.
What happens here
After cleaning, perform a 'scuff sanding' if necessary. This is a light sanding to create a mechanical bond for the new coating, but it should *always* be done after cleaning to prevent contaminants from being embedded. For cabinets previously coated with a pigmented lacquer, denatured alcohol helps to slightly soften the existing lacquer, which improves adhesion of the new coat without requiring heavy sanding.
Goal: Create a surface profile for optimal adhesion of new coatings.
