What happens here

This project guides you through checking and calibrating your miter saw to ensure it cuts perfectly square (90 degrees) both in miter and bevel settings. It covers visual checks with a square, a practical cut test, and how to adjust the saw's settings based on the results, emphasizing the importance of consulting your saw's user manual for specific adjustment procedures.

Your miter saw says 0° but is it actually cutting square? Let's get after it. Unplug your saw. Make sure your saw is set to 0, lock in place. Get yourself a good square, up against your fence and on your blade. And as you can see, I have a gap along this back edge. Get yourself a piece of wood and we'll make a cut. Once we have this, you can go ahead and take this side and flip it over. Press your bottoms tight and as you can tell, we have a gap. Next, we want to check our bevel. Grab yourself a smaller square, lay it on your table, slide it up against your blade. As you can see, there are no gaps. Whether it's a square or the board, if any of those tests fail, you know that your saw needs to be calibrated. Every saw adjusts differently, so check your user manual to figure out how to adjust your saw. In my case, I just move this plate. I'm going to start by loosening these five Allen bolts. Now, when I got my saw locked in zero, you can see that this whole plate moves. So then we're going to go through the same test. Once you have it where you want it, tighten down all your screws. We can do the cut test again. If I flip this board over, there should be perfect all the way up. My bevel is fine, so I'm just going to leave it alone. Use a speed square to test your miter and bevel, verify it with the cut test, and adjust accordingly. This is a good thing to do anytime you buy a new saw and then check it periodically throughout the time of its use. But anyways, I got some stuff to go cut, so I'll catch you guys later. Peace.
