How to Build a Backyard Water Feature

What happens here

Carefully insert the assembled PVC sprinkler pipe with the corrugated hose into the hollow top section of the wooden frame. Position the PVC pipe horizontally so the drilled holes face downwards. Use 1-inch bracket clamps and screws to secure the PVC pipe to the inside of the frame, ensuring it is stable and level. Next, drill a 2-inch hole in the reservoir lid using a hole saw. This hole will allow the corrugated hose and the pump's electrical cable to pass through. Additionally, drill multiple smaller 5/8-inch holes across the entire surface of the lid; these will serve as drainage points for the water to re-enter the reservoir. Insert the small, 2 GPH flow 'Rain Drip' water jets into each drilled hole on the PVC sprinkler pipe. Apply a bead of 100% silicone around each jet to create a watertight seal and prevent them from dislodging. Finally, guide the corrugated hose and pump cable through the 2-inch hole in the lid, then place the lid securely over the water reservoir.

Goal: Integrate the plumbing, water jets, and prepare the reservoir for water collection.

Tools and materials

  • 1-inch Bracket Clamps — Securing the PVC sprinkler pipe inside the wooden frame
  • 100% Silicone Sealant — Sealing around the water jets for a watertight fit
  • Cordless Drill DeWalt — Driving screws and drilling holes in the lid
  • Drill Bit — Drilling drainage holes in the reservoir lid
  • Exterior-grade Screws — Attaching bracket clamps
  • Hole Saw — Drilling large hole in the reservoir lid for hose/cable
  • Rain Drip Water Jets — Creating the water curtain effect
