FAST Wall Patch! EASY Wall Repairs.

What happens here

After the initial patch is installed, take a 10-inch taping knife and apply a skim coat of hot mud over the entire patched area. Work the mud from the center of the patch outwards, feathering the edges thin onto the existing wall to blend the repair seamlessly. The goal is to create a smooth transition between the patch and the original wall. Allow the mud to dry for approximately 20 minutes (or as recommended by the product). Once dry, lightly sand the area to achieve a perfectly smooth finish. Depending on the size of the patch and your skill level, you might need an additional skim coat and subsequent sanding. Finally, apply an orange peel texture, if needed, to match the surrounding wall.

Goal: Create a smooth, seamless, and textured finish for the patched area.

the pan you're going have to move a little faster than this so we're going to have dry mud there we go now we've got a strong patch we don't have to go through the taping process we didn't have to go through the process of applying any sort of backer and now what I will often do is because this is still going to need a skim coat we're going to take a 10-in knife real quick you're going to put that in the pan grab a little bit of mud and we're going to do a nice quick skim coat over the top of this you're going to need more than that yep mud you could do this all with just a 4-in knife if you want it or a 6in knife so see how there you go see how it's low you just want to float that mud over the top and then work the other way also so pull it this way and try not to pull you don't want to try to pull from one Edge over try to pull from the center off so that you're not pulling up the lip of your there you go perfect so put a little bit more right in here pull it down pull it up to the side we kind of work that around a little bit we can see it's kind of popping up just a little so we'll push that in and then we'll clean up our edges let go ahead and clean up the edges you'll press heavy on the one side like that so that we don't have anything high and we'll kind of work it out like that now 5 minute mud it's not going to take very long to dry it doesn't take just 5 minutes but that's about the working time you get we're going to give this about 20 minutes to dry we'll sand it and then we'll go over it with an orange peel texture that's it nice and easy yeah piece of cake there was a hole now there's not a hole look what you did you affected change in this world Matt I know all right you're not you're not working with me very much here it's okay doesn't have a lot to say good job okay John so that was Matt finish's first time ever doing a patch right very first time pretty Dar good that's pretty darn good for the first time so the patch is done but now there's going to be some other steps to maybe some sanding and texturing right there is yeah so depending on how kind of big the patch is your skill level things like that uh you may end up doing one more skim coat over the top of this thing you would kind of sand it you'd throw another skim coat so that last step that we went through with Matt right there you would let that dry you could sand it and then we would work this is an orange peel texture really fine Orange Peel texture so we would just work our way…
