FAST Wall Patch! EASY Wall Repairs.

What happens here

Place the scrap drywall piece on a flat surface, brown paper side up. Using a straightedge and a utility knife or a similar sharp tool, carefully score lines from edge to edge on the brown paper side of the drywall. The scoring should be done at the dimensions of the original hole you are patching, leaving approximately 1.5 inches of brown paper border on all sides. Once scored, carefully break away the gypsum board along these lines, leaving only the front white paper and the brown paper border intact. This creates the 'wings' of the California patch.

Goal: Create the paper 'wings' around the drywall patch for adhesion.

Tools and materials

  • Scrap Drywall — To create the patch with paper 'wings'
  • Straightedge — For guiding the utility knife to score straight lines
  • Utility Knife — To score the drywall paper

don't cut towards your finger Matt so now we're going to take the brown side the back side of the paper and we're going to create strips coming along the back side that are all even so we'll use this is just like a a Simpson strong tie we're going to hold that along the edge take our knife and score from end to end twist the board hold it here score from end to end and we're going to do that going all the way around yeah so you want to make sure you cut all of them up first so that you're not having to work into broken lines because you got to be able to to bust all of those pieces apart perfect all right now we can drop our little straight edge there go ahead and uh you'll bust those pieces up on the drywall very carefully yeah just like that and you want to try to just cut break them straight there you go and your last one perfect now you're going to peel the back of that off of the face paper very carefully all the way to the end so it's off and then continue all the way around the pat
