Everything You Need To Know Before Building a Retaining Wall

What happens here

With the retaining wall layers constructed, the crew focuses on building up the backfill behind the wall. The Caterpillar 305.5E2 mini excavator is used to dump soil from the upper level down into the space behind the newly laid blocks. This soil is then spread and compacted in layers by hand and with the plate compactor. This backfilling is crucial for strengthening the wall and preventing soil erosion from the hillside above. The final grading of the backfill connects smoothly with the natural slope of the hill, creating a seamless transition from the ground above to the retaining wall.

Goal: Backfill and grade the area behind the retaining wall for stability and a natural look.
