Base Preparation with Road Mix

Everything You Need To Know Before Building a Retaining Wall
What happens here
A truckload of road mix is delivered to the site. The crew spreads a 4-inch layer of this road mix over the excavated area where the retaining wall will sit. This layer is then thoroughly compacted using a plate compactor (also called a wacker plate) to create a stable and dense sub-base for the retaining blocks. This foundation is critical for the long-term stability of the wall, preventing settling and ensuring a level surface for the first course of blocks. The process is delayed due to the plate compactor needing maintenance, specifically cleaning its spark plug with a torch to make it start in the cold weather.
Goal: Create a compacted, level sub-base for the retaining wall using road mix.
