COOKING WITH CAST IRON!! EVERYTHING YA EVER WANTED TO KNOW...SEASONING/CARING FOR CAST IRON COOKWARE

What happens here

After thoroughly scrubbing, immediately wipe all pans completely dry with paper towels to prevent flash rust. Preheat your oven to 200-300 degrees Fahrenheit (93-149 degrees Celsius). Once dry, apply a generous amount of Crisco (solid vegetable shortening) to all surfaces of each pan, both inside and out. Use your hands to really work the Crisco into the porous metal, ensuring every part is heavily coated. Alternatively, use flaxseed oil, black walnut oil, pork fat, or bacon grease.

Goal: Prepare pans for seasoning by thoroughly drying and greasing all surfaces.
